Our wonderful volunteer gardener Howard first started tending to our gardens during the pandemic, and since then has given an admirable amount of time to keep them looking tidy and welcoming for patients, visitors and our team.

From clearing leaves to potting bulbs to keep our gardens bright over Winter, Howard's days in the hospice can be as quiet or as busy as he wants them to be, which is one of the things he loves most about volunteering.

And this Mental Health Awareness Day, Howard is sharing how volunteering in our garden has also helped his mental health over the past six years, offering an outlet to enjoy time alone and a reason to get out now that he's semi-retired.

We're so grateful to Howard for all that he does. 💜🌼

For many people who access Teesside Hospice's services, the care and comfort they receive doesn't end when they are no longer a patient or visitor.

In the final part of Tony's series, he shares why he feels so comfortable coming back to Teesside Hospice and the special way he has chosen to honour his late husband Ian's birthday. 💫

Cleveland Cable has increased its corporate partnership and become the first-ever Pioneer Partner at Teesside Hospice! 💜

Through the landmark partnership, the company will donate £25,000 each year, helping us provide vital end-of-life care and support to local people and their families across the region.

This is the next step in a long-standing partnership, which includes over 10 years of support and 8 years of consecutive giving. £25,000 will provide over 900 hours of expert nursing care at Teesside Hospice, ensuring dignity, comfort, and support for our patients.

Glynn Bartliff, Renewable Energy & BESS Strategic Account Manager at Cleveland Cable, said: “We’re incredibly proud to become Teesside Hospice’s first-ever Pioneer Partner, strengthening a relationship that has meant a great deal to us for many years. Taking part in the Italian Job Rally was a fantastic experience and a real reminder of the difference the Hospice makes across our community. We’re looking forward to continuing to build on this partnership and supporting its vital work for years to come.”

Justine Cook, Company Secretary at Cleveland Cable, added: “Teesside Hospice holds a very special place in our hearts. We’ve seen first-hand the care, compassion and support it provides, with one of our own colleagues having benefited from its services. Redcar Racecourse Ltd have been supporting the Hospice since 2011, and in that time have helped us raise over £7000! 💜

We were joined by Miss Amy Fair, General manager, and Diane Jackson, Marketing, who visited the hospice this summer to see how their fundraising over the years has helped provide the services we have now. We'd like to thank them and the rest of the team for their support over the years ✨

Earlier this week, we brought you the first part of Tony's story, where he shared the support he and his late husband Ian received through our Wellbeing Centre.

As well as accessing support through Wellbeing, Ian also received spells of care on our Inpatient Unit to help with pain management, before he sadly passed away on the unit in 2025.

Here, Tony shares more about both his and Ian's journeys, and how the honesty and compassion of our team supported Ian during this time.

Stronger Together 💜💙

Yesterday, as part of Hospice Care Week, our Teesside Hospice and Butterwick Hospice teams joined together to walk over 6 miles from Butterwick's Stockton site to our hospice on Northgate Road. The walk aimed to raise awareness of the hospice care provision that is currently available across our region, and the support our hospices need to ensure this care can continue.

Please don't leave hospice care in Teesside to chance - support our hospices in any way you can, and help hospice care live on for today, tomorrow and generations to come.

We're looking forward to having Teesside Hospice at our October market on Saturday 10th and to hear more about their Morocco Sahara Trek next month!

Four Teessiders whose families or friends have received care in recent years at Teesside Hospice are preparing for a gruelling four day fundraising trek in the Sahara desert during November, trekking over sand dunes, ancient dried-up river beds, and vast open plains in temperatures of between 0°C at night to 40°C during the day.

The trekkers will sleep in tents or under the Milky Way skies and experience traditional Berber cuisine throughout the trek, accompanied by local guides and camels, potentially encountering snakes, scorpions, spiders and desert foxes.

Teesside Hospice is an amazing local facility that gives help and support to people and families who've been affected by a terminal illness. They'll be with us to raise funds for this vital service, so please do stop by their stall, and take part in their raffle and tombola 💜

This week is Hospice Care Week, and we wanted to take the opportunity to share Tony's story with you.

Tony's husband Ian sadly passed away on our Inpatient Unit in 2025, after spending several months attending our wellbeing groups and receiving support with pain management as an inpatient.

In the first video from a three-part series we'll be sharing this week, Tony shares how with the support of our wellbeing team, Ian made special connections and enjoyed new activities.
