We raise aspirations, unlock potential, and open up a world of opportunity. High Tide is an independent charity based in Teesside committed to improving opportunities for young people aged 11-16. Through real-life work experiences and life-changing programmes, we open up a world of opportunities and show our region's young people that anything really is possible, regardless of their background or

circumstances. Focused solely on Tees Valley, we’re on a mission to raise aspirations, unlock potential, change perceptions, break down barriers and create meaningful connections between students and local employers. Since 2012, we’ve partnered with local schools and businesses to deliver life-changing, industry-led programmes that showcase career opportunities and provide real-world work experiences. For businesses, schools, and other stakeholders, we are a catalyst for change. Through our unique industry-led approach to connecting employers and schools, we create the opportunity for everyone to play their part in shaping the future of our region.

Exploring careers in Health and Social Care 🌊

Students had the opportunity to visit , where they took part in an industry visit, workshop and interactive sessions with professionals working across the health and social care sector.

The visit provided valuable insight into the range of health support services and care roles within the voluntary and third sector, helping students better understand day-to-day responsibilities, including care planning, medication support and working directly with individuals to meet their health and wellbeing needs.

By hearing from practitioners and exploring different career pathways, students gained a greater understanding of the rewarding opportunities available within the sector and the positive impact these roles can have on people's lives.

Exploring careers in Construction and Engineering 👷🔧

Students had the opportunity to visit MGL Group through the Teesworks Skills Academy, where Greg Chapman shared valuable insight into the projects, people and skills that help shape our region's infrastructure and built environment.

By hearing directly from industry professionals and learning more about the diverse range of roles within the sector, students were able to develop a greater understanding of the career pathways available to them and the skills needed to succeed.

Experiences like these help bring careers to life, connecting young people with employers and helping them see what's possible for their future.

Volunteers' Week: Trustees in Action

As part of Volunteers' Week, we'd like to recognise the incredible contribution of our trustees, who generously give their time, expertise and support to help High Tide Foundation create opportunities for young people across the Tees Valley.

May was a busy and brilliant month for our Career Taster Days, and it was fantastic to have two of our trustees join students on their visits.

Paula McMahon led a fantastic day exploring engineering and construction pathways, helping students gain valuable insight into careers within the sector.

Meanwhile, Michael Shakesheff joined a cohort visiting Teesside Hospice as part of a Health and Social Care experience, where students learned about the wide range of careers available within the charitable sector and the vital work taking place in our communities.

While much of our trustees' support happens behind the scenes, it was wonderful to see them engaging directly with young people and supporting the experiences that help inspire the next generation.

A look back at one of our recent Health and Social Care Career Taster Week visits 💙

Students had the privilege of visiting Teesside Hospice , where they gained insight into the many roles involved in delivering care, support and compassion to those who need it most.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to learn about careers within health and social care while seeing first-hand the difference these roles make to individuals, families and communities.

CEO Sleepout is tomorrow 💛

Tomorrow, the High Tide Foundation team will be taking part in CEO Sleepout UK Middlesbrough 2026 at the Riverside Stadium.

Five years in business!

Hughston & Claire were delighted to celebrate this milestone with the brilliant team at A&N Safety Consultants on Friday, one of our wonderful Supporting Members and business neighbours!

Andrea Nicholls and Abigail Allick have built a brilliant national business here in the Tees Valley and shown their commitment to the next generation while doing so. From supporting our work experience programmes and employer partnerships, to getting behind our fundraising, they’re a fantastic part of our High Tide community

One week to go until Middlesbrough 2026 💛

Next week, the High Tide Foundation team will be joining others from across the Tees Valley at the Riverside Stadium for CEO Sleepout UK.

We’ll be taking part to help raise funds and awareness, helping us continue to open doors, build confidence and create brighter futures for young people across our region.
