High Tide is an independent charity that provides real-world and life changing work experiences for young people in Tees Valley.

We raise aspirations, unlock potential, and open up a world of opportunity. High Tide is an independent charity based in Teesside committed to improving opportunities for young people aged 11-16. Through real-life work experiences and life-changing programmes, we open up a world of opportunities and show our region's young people that anything really is possible, regardless of their background or circumstances. Focused solely on Tees Valley, we’re on a mission to raise aspirations, unlock potential, change perceptions, break down barriers and create meaningful connections between students and local employers. Since 2012, we’ve partnered with local schools and businesses to deliver life-changing, industry-led programmes that showcase career opportunities and provide real-world work experiences. For businesses, schools, and other stakeholders, we are a catalyst for change. Through our unique industry-led approach to connecting employers and schools, we create the opportunity for everyone to play their part in shaping the future of our region.

Friday night we were at the Tees Valley Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Awards at Teesside University, shortlisted for the Social Impact Award 🌊

We didn’t take the award home this time, but being shortlisted is a real honour. Thank you to everyone behind our nomination and congratulations to the winners and all the shortlisted individuals and organisations doing brilliant work across our region 👏

Every opportunity we create happens because local employers, schools and supporters care about young people as much as we do. They give their time, open their doors and help young people feel connected to the world of work right here on their doorstep.

That’s how one of our Year 9 students summed up his visit to PD Ports during Maritime Futures Week ⚓

As he moved between departments and sites, something clicked. Every role was one piece, and together they keep the whole port working.

That moment, when a young person sees hundreds of careers right on their doorstep, is what High Tide is all about.

Young people researching their own future 💻✨

At high tide we connect young people with opportunity and the world of work across the Tees Valley.

Alongside our group employer experiences and careers learning, students now take charge of their own research, exploring local employers, careers and pathways and discovering what’s right on their doorstep 🌊

This is all thanks to dhdhdh who kindly donated our first devices, with fundraising helping us buy even more 🙌

Making waves in Hartlepool! ⚓🌊

Our Maritime Futures Week students had a fantastic visit to Hartlepool Museum, exploring the town’s amazing maritime history and how it links to the jobs and industries across the Tees Valley today.

🚢 Maritime is so much more than jobs at sea ( but there are plenty of those too)!

That’s exactly what our Maritime Futures Week is about, opening young people’s eyes to the incredible range of careers across the sector, right here in the Tees Valley.

Last week, our students got to meet with some of the Royal Den Hartogh Logistics team at the Port of Middlesbrough.

They discovered how goods move by ship, rail and road and the people, skills and careers that make it happen.

What a way to close Maritime Futures Week! 🎙️📸⚓

Huge thanks to Dr Kat Carruthers, Michael Carruthers and @[NetWORK NotWORK CIC for a brilliant junior journalism session to finish our maritime futures well programme 👏

Our students got hands on with photography, videography and podcasting, capturing and sharing their highlights from a busy week in the maritime sector. Definitely a few future producers marketeers and presenters in the making! 🎬

More career stories, more advice and more new skills to complete a really special week ✨

And a big thank you to every employer who gave their time, expertise and energy. You made this week a success and the impact on our young people has been brilliant to see .

Day Two of 2026 ⚓🌊

What a day with the fabulous team at PD Ports! Our Year 9 group were kept VERY busy with:

🚢 A behind the scenes tour of our immense port
🎮 Simulators and coordination challenges
🩹 First aid training
💬 A careers carousel with professionals from every department

Exactly as we’d hoped, students left informed, inspired and fired up for Day Three! 🔥

Huge thanks to PD Ports and Trinity House, whose support makes these eye opening maritime sector weeks and cadetships possible for local young people

15 students joined us for a busy day one of our first Maritime Futures Week of the new school year

Seeing a working port up close, meeting the people who keep it moving and discovering the careers behind every ship, container and cargo brought the maritime sector to life

✨ Fantastic news to end the week! ✨

We’re delighted to share that High Tide has been successful in securing support from the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation.

And we’re excited to put this funding straight to work.

It will help us reach more young people across Tees Valley, broaden their horizons, raise aspirations and help them see the opportunities that exist for them — right here on their doorstep and beyond.

At High Tide, we believe:

Talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t always.

Our role is to help bridge that gap.

Through employer encounters, workplace visits, sector experiences, workshops and meaningful connections with businesses, we give young people the chance to discover careers they may never have considered.

And with the incredible maritime ecosystem across Tees Valley, there are so many pathways and possibilities to explore. ⚓️

We want young people to meet the people behind those careers, experience different workplaces and start to see that their future can be bigger than they imagined.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation for their continued belief in High Tide and, most importantly, in the potential of the young people we work with.

Now, let’s put this funding to excellent use!
