After three years with High Tide Foundation, Hughston Taylor is leaving the foundation this week to begin his next chapter.

During his time with High Tide, Hughston has played an important role in delivering our programmes and creating opportunities for young people across Tees Valley, working closely with our schools, businesses and partners.

On behalf of everyone at High Tide, we'd like to thank Hughston for his commitment and contribution over the past three years and wish him every success as he looks towards his next opportunity.

Work Experience Month 2026 - July was a really busy month for us at High Tide, as we worked, with the immense support of local employers, to provide meaningful workplace experiences for many young people from across the , including those who would not have otherwise had any opportunity for workplace interaction without us.

With increased expectations from September 2026, collaboration between education and employers has never been more important, and we already know how much our activity makes a difference.

Throughout the past month, fantastic employer partners have been opening their doors across the maritime, engineering and aviation sectors, helping young people explore careers, build confidence and better understand the skills they’ll need for the future and pathways into a wide range of careers.

Thank you to every employer who has opened their doors, shared their expertise and invested their time.

If your organisation isn’t already involved, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you can offer workplace visits and activities, careers talks or industry insight, you can help us inspire and prepare the next generation of talent.

Opportunity for everyone

This week’s Government announcement is a welcome step towards ensuring every young person has access to meaningful careers education, employer engagement and clear pathways into their future.

This is exactly what we’ve been working towards at High Tide for almost 14 years .

We know that when young people meet employers and professiobals, experience workplaces and discover the opportunities on their doorstep, aspirations grow, confidence builds and futures change. Students can see what’s possible, believe they have access to opportunity and better understand how to choose a career pathway, here in the

We’re now preparing for a new academic year and looking forward to continuing to work alongside schools, employers and partners across the Tees Valley to deliver inspiring sector weeks, workplace visits, career workshops and experiences that bring learning about the world of work to life.

This isn’t something any one organisation can achieve alone. It takes collaboration, shared ambition and a commitment to investing in the next generation.

Young people don't need to leave the Tees Valley to reach the world of work.

They just need someone to show them the door is already open, right here.

That's what we do: every programme, every visit, every conversation informs, educates and inspires.

At the end of our sector weeks, it’s brilliant hearing directly from the students.

In pairs or small groups, students deliver a short presentation (prepared throughout the week), reflecting on what they’ve learned about the sector or careers across the Tees Valley, what surprised them most, how their perceptions have changed and what they’ll do next with the knowledge they’ve gained.

Watching the confidence of students grow over the course of the week is incredible. Public speaking doesn’t come naturally to many young people, but with encouragement, practice and peer support and feedback, they stand up, share their ideas and leave with a real sense of achievement.

These mini-presentations are about so much more than speaking in front of others, they help embed learning, build confidence, develop communication skills and encourage students to reflect on their future, then take that learning back to school to share with peers.

If you’d like to help us inspire the next generation by hosting a workplace visit, supporting a careers workshop or speaking at a school assembly, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can create more opportunities for building confidence and career knowledge for young people across the Tees Valley.

What an incredible collective effort!

We’re proud to share that together we have raised an amazing £13,000 through our partnership with CEO Sleepout UK, following our overnight sleepout at the Riverside Stadium in April.

Every person who slept out, donated, sponsored, volunteered or helped make the event such a success has played a part in supporting HIGH TIDE’s mission: creating opportunities, building self-belief and giving young people across the Tees Valley the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about their futures.

A huge thank you to everyone involved. This is what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose. Here’s to creating even more opportunities for the next generation, together.

Your network shouldn’t define your future, but as we know, it so often does, so we’re here to provide a network for those who don’t yet have one.

, when employers open their doors to offer workplace experiences, helping young people understand what’s possible is happening now.

The reality is that not every young person has a workplace to go to, a family connection to call on, or someone who can open that first door.

That’s why at High Tide Foundation, we work with our amazing local business community to create opportunities that might not otherwise exist.

Through employer visits, workplace activities and career experiences, we connect young people with real workplaces, real people and real possibilities, because access to opportunity shouldn’t depend on who you know, but can.

A huge thank you to every employer who opens their doors, shares their time and helps inspire the next generation across the Tees Valley, particularly our corporate partners PD Ports, Casper Shipping Limited, and Jacksons. and all supporting members.
