Last week we took our 2026 Studio Bursary artist Ayodeji Faturoti on a road trip to Leeds, to meet with our space partners East Street Arts, get some insights from industry professionals and attend the opening of an amazing exhibition ‘Lens on Gaza: The Sun and Moon Still Rise’ by photographer and activist Fadi A. Thabet.

We were delighted to be invited to explore and share some of our journey in Middlesbrough, to feature alongside some fantastic artists and arts organisations.

Over the last 6 months with funding from Historic England through the UK Government’s Know Your Neighbourhood Fund we ran our Open House programme.

Based in the ground floor space at Dundas House Dundas Shopping Centre & Indoor Market through our work with East Street Arts we've taken that work out on to the streets of Middlesbrough - Bridge Street West to be precise!

We couldn't have done this without the support of our volunteers with 92 volunteer hours spent on creative and heritage research activities as well as 408 volunteer hours in the Open House space supporting our public programme every Saturday between October 25 and April 26.

Now that programme has come to an end, we're planning what comes next, so watch this space for future announcements and ways to get involved.

Most dates are drop in and the next bookable sessions where you can be guided through the etching process by Adam in a focused 1.5hr session is coming up this Saturday 9th August.

We're inviting people to make a practical contribution to improving the area around Middlesbrough Railway Station on Sunday 14th September as part of a Community Action Day.

It's all part of our WE SHALL BE programme which includes creative interventions, public artworks and supporting ways for communities to make a difference to this part of the town.
