Recovery Connections

Recovery Connections So if you’re thinking about making a change in your life, we’re here to help. Recovery Connections is a peer-led, substance use recovery charity.

We are a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation, here for anyone in the North East of England who has experienced drug or alcohol problems, and who wants things to be better. Originally Hope North East, we were founded in 2008 by members of the local recovery community. In addition to having a presence in Middlesbrough, we also have teams in Gateshead and Stockton, working as part of Gateshead Rec

overy Partnership and Stockton Recovery Service respectively. We offer a range of opportunities that can help build recovery capital and achieve lasting positive change. We focus on individual strengths and have a ‘do with’ rather than a ‘do for’ approach to support. We believe in and support all pathways of recovery. Raising the profile of recovery and challenging stigma is a key aim of everything we do. We endeavor to network and speak to organisations, groups and communities about recovery wherever possible. Our goal is to support as many people as possible into recovery, in the areas we currently work within and more in the future. Our mission: We are led by the people we support. Through a culture of recovery we coach, nurture, train, educate, inspire and empower individuals and communities to achieve their full potential. Our vision: Our vision is for people to achieve their full potential and to live their best life free from stigma and discrimination. Our values: Power to change, Heart, Humility, Hope, Authenticity and Unity. Find out more about our mission, vision and values: https://www.recoveryconnections.org.uk/about-us/vision-mission-values/

In late 2019 we took over Middlesbrough based eatery, The Fork In The Road marking the beginning of our group of companies offering social enterprise opportunities; there are now four businesses within Recovery Connections Enterprises: The Fork in the Road, Bloom Florists, The Fork in the Road – Stage One and 131 The Venue. The social enterprise businesses, in addition to offering services to the public, also run a volunteer, training and work experience programme open to people across the Tees Valley who need support back into the world of work.

A fantastic celebration of creativity earlier this year at the Shipley Art Gallery 🎨

Over five weeks, some of our Recovery Connections group worked closely with artist Michael Davies, exploring different mediums and techniques to create both individual and collaborative pieces. The result was a powerful collection of artwork, showcasing talent, expression, and the journey behind each piece.

We’re so proud of everyone who took part, and a big thank you as well to the Shipley team for hosting and supporting the project.

Take a look at some of the brilliant work and the people behind it 👇

From Rehab to Ultramarathons – Dan’s Journey 🏃‍♂️

After graduating from our Gateshead rehab, Dan has gone on to achieve many inspiring feats - including taking on a series of Ultramarathons! This weekend, he begins the first of two ultra challenges, pushing himself to the limit once again, all while fundraising to support people in recovery.

This isn’t Dan’s first time giving back. Two years ago, he completed five huge challenges to raise funds for us — and now he’s back, going even further. 100k today > 100 MILES next month!

His determination, resilience, and commitment to helping others is nothing short of inspirational 👏

We believe that when when you’re with people who understand what you’ve been through, you can feel less alone. And more able to find the help and support that can make your life better.

And in the last year, more than 7800 volunteer hours have helped us to keep doing this.

Today, as comes to an end, we've said thank you to the people who give their time, freely, to our communities across the country.

A sound bath, arts and crafts, lunch and conversation in Middlesbrough, for volunteers from across the region. Who, together, have added more than 320 ENTIRE days of support to our LERO in the last 12 months.
