Recovery Connections

Recovery Connections So if you’re thinking about making a change in your life, we’re here to help. Recovery Connections is a peer-led, substance use recovery charity.

We are a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation, here for anyone in the North East of England who has experienced drug or alcohol problems, and who wants things to be better. Originally Hope North East, we were founded in 2008 by members of the local recovery community. In addition to having a presence in Middlesbrough, we also have teams in Gateshead and Stockton, working as part of Gateshead Rec

overy Partnership and Stockton Recovery Service respectively. We offer a range of opportunities that can help build recovery capital and achieve lasting positive change. We focus on individual strengths and have a ‘do with’ rather than a ‘do for’ approach to support. We believe in and support all pathways of recovery. Raising the profile of recovery and challenging stigma is a key aim of everything we do. We endeavor to network and speak to organisations, groups and communities about recovery wherever possible. Our goal is to support as many people as possible into recovery, in the areas we currently work within and more in the future. Our mission: We are led by the people we support. Through a culture of recovery we coach, nurture, train, educate, inspire and empower individuals and communities to achieve their full potential. Our vision: Our vision is for people to achieve their full potential and to live their best life free from stigma and discrimination. Our values: Power to change, Heart, Humility, Hope, Authenticity and Unity. Find out more about our mission, vision and values: https://www.recoveryconnections.org.uk/about-us/vision-mission-values/

In late 2019 we took over Middlesbrough based eatery, The Fork In The Road marking the beginning of our group of companies offering social enterprise opportunities; there are now four businesses within Recovery Connections Enterprises: The Fork in the Road, Bloom Florists, The Fork in the Road – Stage One and 131 The Venue. The social enterprise businesses, in addition to offering services to the public, also run a volunteer, training and work experience programme open to people across the Tees Valley who need support back into the world of work.

From rehab to running ultramarathons — Dan’s story is nothing short of incredible.

After entering recovery in 2019 believing his life was over, he’s now celebrating 7 years clean and taking on TWO huge challenges: a 100km run and a 100 mile ultra 💪

It’s powerful, honest and well worth a read — take a moment to read his story and see why he’s giving back to the charity that helped save his life: https://www.j☝️☝️ustgiving.com/page/dan-z-run-for-recovery?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL

Fancy a FREE place at this year's Ali Brownlee 5k or Middlesbrough 10k? 😎

We’re inviting people to run with Recovery Connections this year — and support recovery across the North East through movement, community and shared purpose.

This summer, we’re taking part in both runs, on Sunday 30 August, and we’d love you to be part of the team.

A 5k or 10k can be a big and meaningful challenge, whether it’s your first event, your first run in a long time, or something you’ve been working towards. You don’t need to see yourself as “a runner” — just willing to show up and take part.

What you’ll get if you run with us:

🎽 Support before, during and after the event
🏃‍➡️A Recovery Connections t‑shirt
🏃‍♀️Fundraising guidance and encouragement
👟Being part of a team that makes recovery visible, together

We ask runners to aim for a £120 fundraising target, with plenty of support to help you get there. Every pound raised helps us continue supporting people across the North East.

We’re also building towards the Middlesbrough Half Marathon in March 2027, so this is a great way to get involved now - and stay with us for the long run. But only if you choose to, of course!

Big challenges look different for everyone. What matters is choosing one that feels right for you.

On site, supporting Mental Health Awareness Week at Riverside Campus, University of Sunderland .

Sarah showed up for Collegiate Recovery at two events during the annual awareness event, during last week.

And did a fine impression of a newsreader at the desk 🤓
