Be alert: equine flu cases are rising in the UK.

Recent reports show a sudden increase in equine influenza outbreaks this month. A reminder of how quickly this highly contagious illness can spread.

Knowing the signs and acting quickly can help protect your horse and others on your yard.

Look out for:
🌡️ A temperature above 38.5°C
🐴 A frequent dry, harsh cough
💧 Nasal discharge
🥕 Loss of appetite
💤 Lethargy
🩺 Swollen or painful glands around the jaw
🌾 Gagging when eating

If you notice any of these signs, isolate your horse straight away and contact your vet promptly.

Supporting Safer Roads for Horse Riders

Over the weekend, Methlick Community Council had the pleasure of attending an event organised by MHOG Methlick Horse Owner's Group - a fantastic local group set up to improve road safety for horses and their riders in our area.

Following some serious incidents on local roads last year, MHOG have been working hard to raise awareness and take practical action. At the event they officially launched new road safety signage - available through a British Horse Society and Police Scotland initiative, which helps alert drivers to the presence of horses on the road.

We were also delighted to receive a generous donation of £80 from the group, raised at the event, which will go towards community projects here in Methlick. Thank you so much, Nina and the whole MHOG team!

Thank you so much for a fantastic day yesterday everyone! We were at full capacity for horses and had so many visitors and supporters throughout the day. Each and every one of you who came along made it such a special community day. Seeing so many smiling faces and happy ponies was just wonderful. There are too many people to name individually to thank but please know that every little contribution was so appreciated.

A couple of lovely people have asked how they can donate rather than popping a penny in a tub on Saturday. Hopefully we can cover the cost of the signs but any excess will be given to MCC who have been so supportive of us organising our ride.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday , whether taking part with your ponies or following on foot/bike. We set off at 1pm from the carpark by the chinese. The forecast looks decent too!

Remember we will be gratefully taking donations on the day to help cover the cost of the signs (£100) & also of any homebaking and juice. The ride starts at 1pm but I will be there from midday.

Ps aren't these cute 🥰.... all riders will get a little goody bag and the BHS have kindly sent some things for us too!
