Reflection 2025
Merthyr Homeless Outreach volunteers
Have had a busy year answering queries from individuals in need or members of the public who messaged with a concern. We attended meetings, searched fields, wooded areas, bus stops, searching for individuals we has tip offs about. We made so many pleas for support asking for food, clothing, tents and assistance to ensure all registered homeless individuals and families had Easter and as you know Christmas as this year so us not only liaising with the Housing Solutions Team in the local authority, but also with social services. At first we thought we wouldn't achieve serving all this Christmas, but again, the generosity from so many of you surpassed our expectations and saw volunteers delivering a Christmas to over 140, with our final delivery 20.45 Christmas eve.
2025 also saw us lose friends we've supported and the lead up to Christmas we lost Gerwyn Davies, a friend who supported Outreach from day one, donating our supplies for us to first go outside. Gerwyn was also the mastermind behind our Calendar which saw us raise funds to ensure all properties housing individuals throughout covid had microwaves.
We finished 2025 with uncertainty as to whether we could continue for Easter but fortunately, a service had been held at St Mary's on the 10th Dec, with funds raised donated to us. This is a massive help but for us to continue we need support. We know you do support us, we just feel guilty pleading all the time.
Last year one of our a volunteers highlighted a simple truth: homelessness can happen to any of us—through a relationship breakdown, a health crisis, or the loss of a job. By treating every individual with respect, compassion, and showing empathy and being non judgemental we show individuals and families we support that a helping hand us there.
So that's us for 2025. We wish you all a healthy , happy new year and want you all to know you are awesome and we thank you xx
