♟️❤️ Rooking Back! 😌

Date 📆: October 2024
Where 🌍: North Liverpool Academy Merseyside
What 🤔: One of our early Under-18 tournaments
Who ❓: Our young players, dedicated volunteers and photographer Billy Griffiths

🏆 A table full of trophies, medals and memories!

Looking back to 2024, when we were running one of our early Under-18 tournaments, with several age sections giving young players the chance to compete, test themselves and take home some silverware!

Among the winners were younger Saswin Thiruvarudchelvan, Danylo Laba, Tony Leong. It's wonderful to look back and remember the players who were part of those early events.

Amazing to see how young these players are even two years ago... some are now at Uni, some sadly no longer play, some are very strong players now

📸 A big thank you to Billy Griffiths for capturing the occasion, and, of course, to the fantastic volunteers who helped make it happen.

The best part? Many of those volunteers are still helping us at our latest tournaments! ❤️

These events don't happen by magic. Behind every tournament are people giving their time, encouraging the youngsters and helping Merseyside chess continue to grow.

To all those who were there in the early days... and those still supporting us today.... thank you! ♟️👏

Both academies are officially back in full swing for the new term! We’re thrilled to welcome 18 new members, bringing our total to 62 students… all hard at work refining their game.
From competing in adult leagues and entering tournaments to bringing their skills back to their school boards and inspiring classmates, our players are making moves everywhere (even on library visits!)

It’s a busy season, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂❤️♟️Culture Liverpool Maria Eagle Chess in Schools and Communities Magda Hamblett Laura Robertson-Collins Liverpool BID Company Malcolm Pein Andrew Savage Merseyside Society for Deaf People Ian Byrne MP Whitefield Primary School

Great start to the new season for Mersey Juniors in the adults league! ♟️✨
Opening our campaign against Wallasey Juniors…who are chasing the same success… meant it was bound to be a close, hard-fought match. It was a bit bittersweet personally, given how much Mersey Junior Chess supports and develops young players in schools and academies right across Merseyside and Wirral, but the chess on display was fantastic. Hardly any blunders, just sharp, solid games all around.
When the final results came in, Mersey secured a tight 3-2 victory over Wallasey, with both Mersey Junior reserves winning their matches as well!
A wonderful night of chess at one of my absolute favourite clubs. On to the next match.. against my own club Liverpool 5🏆🙂👍♟️❤️Magda Hamblett
