The History of the Menai Suspension Bridge – 12th February 2026. 2.pm. The Community Centre, Menai Bridge.

Menai Suspension Bridge The illustrated talk by Dr Warren Kovach begins at 2.00 p.m., refreshments available from 1.45 p.m. This lecture is one of the Civic Society's contributions to the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the opening of the Suspension Bridge. This iconic, Grade I listed structure was designed by Telford to connect the Isle of Anglesey to the mainland, serving as a critical transport link on the road from London to Holyhead. Further events to follow on the 8th August 2026 when, with the Town, we celebrate Thomas Telford's birthday.

Visit to the Oriel, Llangefni, 9th January 2026

Exploring the Oriel Great afternoon on one of the Civic Society 'visits', exploring at the Oriel this time, with the help of Cally and Awel from the Oriel staff. We are so lucky to have such a superb gallery on our doorstep. Works by Tunnicliffe, Kyffin Williams (and more), local history, bara brith as well - made it an afternoon to remember. Even the weather co-operated. This was a taster, in many senses.
