Welcome to Pegasus Therapeutic Learning Centre! At Pegasus Therapeutic Learning Centre, we are dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of neurodivergent individuals, those experiencing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and young people affected by attachment and developmental trauma. Rooted in compassion, unconditional acceptance, and a belief in the intrinsi
c value of every individual, we offer a holistic, therapeutic approach to learning tailored to each person’s needs. Our Approach:
We provide child-centred therapeutic learning that focuses on building emotional regulation, self-awareness, resilience, and social and communication skills. Through one-to-one sessions, we explore equine- and other animals - assisted interactions, and immersive experiences in the natural environment of our rural site. This outdoor learning space offers an opportunity for young people to thrive, free from the constraints and pressures of traditional school environments. Our approach is deeply inspired by the techniques and principles taught by Sue Coombes at Rainbow Horses Learning Centre. Guided by trauma-informed practices and a commitment to a low-arousal, low-demand environment, we prioritize safety and connection. This foundation allows us to support learners in building strong, healthy relationships and engaging with the world on their terms. For those who find school distressing, we provide a nurturing environment that fosters safety and autonomy. Learners are empowered to lead their own journeys, engaging in activities that reflect their special interests while building meaningful relationships with supportive adults and peers. Therapeutic Learning in Action:
Our curriculum is designed around the unique needs of each learner. For example;
- History can be explored by learning how horses have supported humans over time.
- Math comes alive as learners measure and weigh horses, plotting their progress using geometry and numeracy skills.
- Psychoeducation helps young people understand how their brains work, empowering them with strategies for emotional regulation and self-awareness. Beyond animal-related activities, we offer diverse projects such as woodwork, gardening, soldering, and textiles, aligning with the interests of each learner. For those seeking additional challenges, we can support work towards nationally recognized qualifications in areas like animal care, personal development, and employment skills. Our Programs:
We provide flexible programming, offering sessions ranging from two hours to 12.5 hours per week. Operating between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Saturday family sessions are also available once a month, promoting shared growth and connection. Our dynamic therapeutic approach is guided by a range of influences, including trauma-informed techniques, the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy), and the latest research. Our staff are extensively experienced in supporting neurodivergent individuals and those facing SEMH challenges, modeling healthy relationships with both people and animals. Active listening, unconditional positive regard, and respect for boundaries create an environment where learners feel seen, heard, and valued. Activities at Pegasus are more than just tasks—they are opportunities to process emotions, regulate sensory needs, and develop self-worth. Whether through sensory play, art, or achieving intrinsically motivated goals, learners are encouraged to explore their interests and discover their strengths. Join Us:
