CAR & TRANSPORT GROUP
Do you enjoy cars, trains, planes, and transport heritage? Join our friendly group of transport enthusiasts and discover Britain's rich and diverse transport culture while enjoying great social events and day trips.

With around 22 members, we have an exciting programme of events throughout 2026, including:

✅ Car museums and classic car shows
✅ Historic motor racing events
✅ Aviation museums and heritage centres
✅ Railway museums and heritage railways
✅ Narrow boat trips and transport-themed outings

Recent visits have included: 🏁 The Great British Car Journey (Derbyshire)
VSCC Historic Car Racing at Silverstone

Upcoming trips include:
Flying Scotsman excursion (May)
Narrow boat trip (June)
Newark Air Museum (June)

We meet on the 1st Wednesday of every month, 2:00pm–4:00pm, at:

LOCAL HISTORY GROUP – JUNE MEETING

Following the success of our May talk with Jed Jaggard on the famous "Painted the Town Red" story, we're delighted to welcome back Brian Fare for our June meeting.

During WWII, Melton was home to Parachute Regiment battalions, the Remount Depot training horses and dogs for the army, RAF Melton Mowbray, and the Home Guard. But what was life like for the civilian population during these extraordinary times? Join us to find out!

Entry: £3 per person (cash only)
Pre-booking is strongly recommended.

Our friendly, fun, and occasionally competitive Petanque group is looking for new members to join us!

📍 Where: The Bluebell, Hoby
📅 When: 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month
⏰ Time: 12 noon – 2:00 pm

We play in almost all weathers – only a heavy downpour will stop us! Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced player, you're very welcome to come along and give it a try.

There is no charge to attend, although we do encourage members to support our host venue by purchasing a drink.

Flower Arranging Group II – May Meeting

Our “Fiver Challenge” turned simple jam jars, tins, bottles and jugs into beautiful floral creations bursting with colour and personality — all using flowers costing no more than £5!

With garden foliage freely gathered and creativity flowing, members transformed everyday containers with ribbons, lace, twine, paint and plenty of imagination. The result was an inspiring afternoon full of laughter, friendship and stunning arrangements proving that beautiful floristry doesn’t need a big budget.
A wonderful celebration of creativity, sustainability and shared inspiration — definitely a theme to repeat again!

Theatre Trip – 14th May 2026

Our latest theatre outing took us to see The Bodyguard: The Musical — and what an unexpectedly brilliant afternoon it turned out to be!

Even those who arrived unsure of what to expect, especially members who hadn’t seen the original film, left thoroughly delighted by the performance.

As always, members commented on how much they enjoyed both the show itself and the matinee performance time, making for a relaxed and enjoyable day out.

A thoroughly entertaining Thursday afternoon filled with fantastic music, wonderful company, and a show that truly exceeded expectations. Brilliant seats, brilliant voices, and plenty of conversation all the way home!

A wonderful cultural afternoon at De Montfort Hall with the Leicester Symphony Orchestra and outstanding pianist Dominic Piers Smith performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

Thanks to discounted tickets and member car sharing, it was a superb day of music, friendship, and great value. Attendees described the concert as “fantastic” and “a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.”

We look forward to more cultural outings in the future!
