Mayfacs Community Shed

Mayfacs Community Shed A community space to meet, chat, and create things. With a purpose to reduce isolation and loneliness, but most importantly, to be friendly and fun.

MAYFACS (Mayfield And Five Ashes Community Services) is a registered charity and opened our community Shed in 2021 under our MAYFACS umbrella, with a workshop area and social space. Our Community Garden followed, which incorporates our Bee Hives and Orchard. The MAYFACS Shed and Community Garden is an opportunity
for anyone to come along, meet some friendly people, learn
new skills or share your o

wn skills, and spend time in the
workshops or outdoor spaces on your own personal projects
or community projects. You do not need to have any experience in woodwork or even
have picked up a tool at all! We have Shedders happy to
share skills and experience, as well as lots of different
activities you can get involved in from our well-equipped
workshop, community garden and orchard, beekeeping and
other skills workshops available. Or if you have skills you
would love to share with like-minded people, come and join
us and share your knowledge. Becoming a Shedder at MAYFACS Community Shed brings many
benefits including:
-Access to tools and equipment in a safe and communal
environment
-Participation in social events and activities
-Support from Session Leaders and fellow shedders' expertise
and skills
-Discount codes for tools and equipment via membership of
UKMSA (MAYFACS)
-Opportunities to voice your ideas on the MAYFACS Community
Shed development and strategy, as well as to share your own
experience and skills
-Insurance cover for using the MAYFACS Community Shed
equipment whilst on site at the site
-Connection and friendship with fellow shedders
-Community opportunities and participation in the wider
MAYFACS community networks
-Attendance at existing Community Shed sessions and
workshops and potential new sessions!

The Shedders have been working hard on building a practice pole for local school teams to practice their Maypole Dancing ahead of this years May Fair! With thanks to the support of the Mayfieldians, this pole is a more portable practice option for the children to rehearse what is always a very popular part of the celebrations!

What's it like to be a MAYFACS Shedder? Some days we are a hive of activity, making items to sell at upcoming fundraising events, other days we are learning and exploring new skills such as willow weaving, and some days, we just hang out with the roaming cattle!!! But every day at MAYFACS Shed, is a day of fun, laughter, and socialising!

The Shed is open to anyone to join, and with so much to do, why don't you pop down and have a chat with us! And if being inside isn't your cup of tea - then explore our community garden, orchard and beekeeping instead!

November is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. There are many reasons why men might talk less about mental health, such as societal expectations of masculinity and fear of responses from others. Mayfacs supports building awareness and conversations around Men's mental health and encouraging men to talk.

Every week at Mayfacs Community Shed our Men's Shed Group meet on a Wednesday between 9.30am - 12 30pm and undertake various projects for the Shed and for our wider community, but also just sit together and have a cuppa! The group is part of the wider UK Men's Sheds Association network.

If you would like any further information, please contact us at MAYFACS COMMUNITY SHED on [email protected] or 01435 873888 or just pop down to Merrieweathers Farm, Mayfield and see what its all about! More details are also on our website www.mayfacs.org.uk/the-shed

MAYFACS supports building awareness and conversations around Men's mental health and encouraging men to talk.

Our weekly Men on the Move group get together to walk, talk, explore and connect in the beautiful nature around us. This group is open to men of any age, with a reasonable level of fitness. The group is now volunteer led and walks are co-ordinated through a whatsapp group which has also become a source of support and friendship. However, it is not essential that you join the whatsapp group to take part.

The group takes place weekly, and there is no commitment required to attend each week. We are also pleased to be able to continue providing this group free of charge, thanks to our volunteer leaders!

We have had the enormous honour to work with 2 local families to restore and repair this bench in St Dunstans Churchyard over the past few months. The bench has been a special place for catching up and being with friends, and we loved working on it and giving it a fresh look.

We hope it continues to provide a place of reflection, friendship and love for many more years to come 💕
