800 Derbyshire WI members including some from Cromford WI attended an Autumn Celebration event at the Winding Wheel last Wednesday. There were lots of interesting stalls and an array of raffle prizes that included all of the flower arrangements that Jonathan Moseley had produced as the morning speaker as well as those donated by all the stall holders. In the afernoon Natalie Rees Simms, told us about her life as a dancer on a cruise ship, the Moulin Rouge and her interest in pottery culminating in reaching the final of The Great Pottery Throwdown final. The final speaker was Will Kirk from the Repair Shop who talked to Lois Wilkes one of the Board of Trustees about his life undertaking furniture restoration and how he became a member of the Repair Shop Team. A great day. Three interesting speakers, lots of shopping opportunities and a chance to meet up with friends.

On Thursday, Cromford WI hosted a craft afternoon to make Christmas Trees. We were joined by members of Ambergate, Crich, Ireton Wood and Idridgehay WIs and a couple of visitors. Everyone went home with a Christmas Tree having enjoyed a fun afternoon.

Latest edition of the WI page in Derbyshire Life and our Montage is included. We really enjoyed making it for our contribution to Celebrating Cromford. It is now on display in the Cromford Institute where we meet. We already have plans for next year.

A birthday message to the members from Jeryl Stone, NFWI Chair

Jeryl Stone, NFWI Chair:

To our wonderful membership - I have so enjoyed seeing the WI Day joy, sisterhood, and celebrations being shared online today, and all the wonderful activities taking place; from local parties right through to the special content hosted our own Learning Hub. It's had the Board and I with brimming with pride to know how important being a member of the WI feels to each of you, every reason for joining and staying an active member is a little different, and every experience unique. Yet the shared sense of being part of a movement now 110 years old - alive and thriving - runs through each post and party across England, Wales and the Islands today.

So happy birthday to the WI, and long may we continue to be a lodestar for friendship and getting things done! Thank you for everything.
