Making Exercise More Accessible for Everyone!

Our community's outdoor exercise equipment is a fantastic resource, but we noticed it was becoming tricky for some people to use. The matting around the equipment had become uneven and compacted, and the area was also prone to flooding, making access difficult and sometimes unsafe.

We're thrilled to announce that thanks to a successful application to the Middlesbrough Council's Community Grant Programme, we've been able to make some much-needed improvements!

Our dedicated team of volunteers has spent the last few weeks hard at work. They've been busy digging out the old matting, installing a smart new boarded edge, and filling the area with drainage stone. To finish it off, they've laid down protective matting and a fresh layer of woodchip.

This project means a safer, more stable, and flood-free surface, ensuring everyone in our community can continue to enjoy the benefits of the outdoor exercise equipment. A big thank you to our amazing volunteers and Middlesbrough Council for their support!

Whether the Friends are working in the Park, Dell or leading guided walks with the local schools, we try to wear our fluorescent jackets. Melissa of the Coop Marton Funeralcare nominated the group for a charitable donation and joined us to give us a nice cheque which has helped to purchased both replacement jackets and tools

Hey everyone, just a heads up! The steps at Gunnergate are due for a makeover (either a full replacement or some TLC repairs!).🛠️

Middlesbrough Council will be closing the steps while the work is being done, although we believe it's a public right of way, it is better closed for now.

In the meantime, please be extra careful around the area. We've put up a temporary block for safety, but it keeps getting chucked in the beck! 🤦‍♀️ Let's keep an eye out and stay safe.
