We’re proud to announce that we will be supporting the Coastal Villages Community First Responders this year 🚑

These incredible volunteers are trained to respond to 999 emergencies in the vital first minutes of an incident — when fast action can save lives.

Every piece of equipment they use is funded entirely through charitable donations, so community support makes a real difference ❤️

🧠 Faster stroke treatment thanks to video technology

As part of Stroke Awareness Month, East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust is celebrating the impact of video‑link stroke diagnosis, which has already helped more than 5,000 patients receive faster assessment and treatment.

Using handheld devices, ambulance crews can connect suspected stroke patients with hospital stroke specialists before they arrive. This means some patients can bypass A&E altogether and go straight to specialist stroke care – reducing delays and improving outcomes.

Across the region, arrival‑to‑imaging times have fallen dramatically, with some hospitals achieving scans within minutes of arrival. Faster treatment is linked to reduced mortality, less disability, shorter hospital stays and better recovery.

This innovative approach is now live at 12 of 15 stroke centres in the East of England and has recently been recognised at the NHS Excellence Awards.

Wishing Julie huge congratulations on qualifying as a Community First Responder along with 12 other volunteers from other areas this week, and we would like you to join us in welcoming her to the team💚

Our Responders complete intense training over 6 days finished by asessments and exams to be able to attend life threatening calls on behalf of East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust for the communities where they live and work.

We appreciate our wonderful volunteers and are so thankful for all they do💚

A little quote from Julie on completion of her qualification...
"I'm really looking forward to being part of the Coastal Villages team and supporting my local community - being able to be a reassuring face in emergencies."

Last night’s episode of Ambulance on BBC One shone a well‑deserved spotlight on Community First Responders (CFRs) — volunteers who drop everything at a moment’s notice, heading out into the unknown to help complete strangers on what is often the worst day of their lives - No blue lights, no big ambulance, no fanfare… just commitment, compassion, and a determination to make a difference.

As CFRs, we’re often the very first on scene, sometimes arriving within minutes of a 999 call. In those critical early moments, before an ambulance crew can get there, we provide essential, life-saving care — managing airways, giving oxygen, monitoring vital signs, or delivering CPR to someone in cardiac arrest.

But beyond the clinical side, it’s the human side that really stands out. CFRs are often the first reassuring voice a patient or family member hears — the first calm presence in what can feel like absolute chaos. That ability to bring reassurance, clarity and calm is just as important as any medical intervention.

Last night’s episode also highlighted something incredibly important: What3Words. - We strongly encourage everyone to download the app. It allows 999 call handlers to pinpoint your exact location — especially vital in parks, countryside, or anywhere without a clear address.

Around our coastline there are many hard to reach places for example: if you need help while out walking, What3Words can guide crews directly to you without delay. Those few saved minutes really do matter.

If you watched Ambulance last night, you’ll know just how vital Community First Responders are — and how tools like What3Words can help us reach you faster. - Please share and help spread the word.

Thank You

The team in ambulance control try to assist paramedics Sam and Sophie, who are deep in woodland struggling to locate a patient they’ve been told has had a fit while out on a walk.
