We were out and about today giving young Marlow street trees some love. Removing old broken stakes, adding new stakes and ties where needed, straightening and pruning to smarten things up. Also water for trees in distress. Many have watering pipes so we can wet the root zone directly without having to use too much water: a precious resource in the current drought. We've more to do, but it was a good start.
p.s. the savannah pictured is actually Ridgeway "green" space!

SoT! ... Save our Trees!
After four weeks straight of constant heat without rain even established trees are suffering. Two mature ones along Lock Rd have completely died; others, like the one pictured at Gossmore Park, are struggling.
So this is a shout-out to fellow residents. If there are street or park trees suffering near where you live please help them out. Or, if you can't get to them, please alert us via Messenger or by email at [email protected] and our volunteers will try to help.

Come and talk trees with Releaf Marlow at the free-entry Marlow Regatta Family Day on Sunday 14th June! We'll be part of a "Green Village" of stalls showcasing all kinds of environmental activities in our beautiful town.
We look forward to chatting with fellow residents!

"Buckinghamshire Council is inviting expressions of interest from those with land and large gardens available for tree planting, to help realise the ambition of the Bucks Tree Mission, which aims to plant over half a million trees by 2031 – one for every resident living in Buckinghamshire."

Following delivery of a last batch of Free Family Trees this week, Releaf Marlow's tree planting season is over for another year. Our volunteers planted 125 trees and distributed another 186 to residents of Marlow and nearby, making 311 in total.
Now, our remaining stock in our little tree nursery is rapidly coming into leaf (pictured). We'll look after these saplings over summer for planting or distribution next winter.
If you've planted any trees this winter, NOW is the time to start watering. Handy tip: for best survival a really good soaking less often is better than frequent sprinkles.

With tree planting season virtually over, it's great to be reminded of what Releaf Marlow wants to achieve, courtesy of the inspirational think/do-tank Create Streets.

Releaf Marlow held its last community tree-planting project of the season on Saturday - putting in 25 new trees on the back field of Holy Trinity School, including a circle of Mediterranean cypresses around the school's fabulous tribal meeting circle (pictured).
Thanks to all the volunteers who turned out, correctly guessing that this would be the only sunny day in a month! Also also to Marlow Town Council, whose 2024 grant to Releaf Marlow specially for school tree planting funded this project. Plus to The Federation of Holy Trinity & Little Marlow CE Schools head teacher Kirsten Harjette for her positive collaboration.
We hope the new trees will provide wonder and interest to generations of future pupils of Holy Trinity.

Releaf Marlow's last community tree-planting event of the season is happening on Saturday 14th. And after weeks of rain, IT IS FORECAST TO BE SUNNY!
So do come and help us plant trees on Holy Trinity School's back field, including around the Medieval fire pit (pictured). Families welcome. Email nick at [email protected] for details.

Releaf Marlow's Free Family Trees scheme is back in business after a Christmas break! We've got 13 native and wildlife-friendly species available, suitable for smaller gardens up to larger plots. Visit Releaf Marlow's web page for full details and to request up to 6 trees. The scheme ends in March, so don't delay. Open only to residents of Marlow and surroundings.

We had a great morning at Cedar Drive in Marlow Bottom today. Thanks to Richard for inviting us to replant his woodland after almost all its trees had to be felled due to disease. Also to Max, Harry, Phil & partner, Stephen, Andy, Rebecca and Alex for joining the work party.
Very soon, 113 new birch, oak, field maple, hazel, wild cherry and hawthorn trees will be gracing this area and providing fresh habitat for wildlife of all kinds.
This was Releaf Marlow's last group planting event for this winter. Though residents can still help us to plant perennials on Marlow's Path of Positivity on 16/17th Jan. See recent post for details.
