An idyllic morning ARK River School in and by the Kennet at Axford for 55 students from St Michael's Aldbourne.
We helped them discover lots of river life, including a brook lamprey. Seeing the wonders of nature locally is special and creates lasting memories and children who feel genuinely connected to their blue and green spaces.
We also took them on a riverbank stroll to identify healthy river habitat features.
The classes also got to participate in activities with Ramsbury Farming & Countryside Education
We are thrilled to once again be working with Ramsbury FACE; and will be back at this beautiful location next week to work with 4 more primary schools.

Eel Alert!
More elvers are turning up in our passive eel traps in the Kennet. This is eely exciting to see. The European eel is Critically Endangered, the data our trained volunteers are collecting is to support the Environment Agency's eel restocking on the Kennet.
Our volunteers are hugely dedicated, our 6 sites are being checked on a weekly basis. Each site can take between 2.5 - 4 hours to check. Thank you eel volunteers.
Our citizen science eel trap monitoring is part of Thames Catchment Community Eels Project - Development Phase, a partnership of 8 organisations improving the future for eels across the Thames catchment, led by Thames Rivers Trust and funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund

It's
We have a truly amazing ever expanding team of outstanding volunteers contributing to our work!
This week more new volunteers got trained up for our eel monitoring citizen science project on the Kennet, training led by our Eel Officer Emily and the EA's Darryl Clifton-Dey.
We now have enough volunteers to cover all 6 sites and check our 120 passive eel traps on a weekly basis over the next 12 months.
This exciting project is producing regular and useful data for the Environment Agency's eel restocking on the Kennet. We couldn't run this project without volunteers, thank you to our eel volunteers and all our other volunteers too 🙌

ARK Hero pin badges are awarded to students for a variety of deserving reasons during our River School project.
Yesterday we spent the day at St Nicholas, Newbury; where we gave out 2 to two amazing girls who were extremely focused. Well done 👏👏👏
We look forward to getting these students out into the Kennet later this month to continue their hands on chalk stream learning journey.

Marlborough Brownies were out for an ARK River School yesterday evening clearing Stonebridge Lane litter, checking out good water quality indicator invertebrates in the Kennet and learning about water vole.
Water vole are endangered, the way we manage the river and adjoining land is to support this keystone species.
