The Friends of the Victorian Cemetery are now in their 8th year, a small mostly retired group of volunteers who aim to help conserve and enhance this beautiful cemetery for the benefit of the local community and visitors alike.

We are very keen to increase the diversity of the cemetery so over the years have planted over 5000, bulbs bluebells, fritillaries and crocuses, rattle seed to help increase wildflower growth and plan to plant a tribute to the late Queen this Autumn.

Being a member of The Friends of the Victorian Cemetery, has given us the opportunity to meet new people, encourage friendships, exercise and be outside in a serene and peaceful environment.

Our official group meet on the 2nd Monday in the month, 10am till noon but a small group also meet most Friday mornings where we help maintain the cemetery, keeping rampart thugs such as brambles nettles under control which exposes graves and headstones.

If you think you could spare time to join us and join a group that offers both companionship and an opportunity to help care for a beautiful, wild and historic location, please contact:

In April everyone was invited to take part in the Festival of Flowers as part of the town's events to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year.

There were two ways people could get involved:

Send a photo of your flower arrangement, window box, garden or other floral creation to add to an online photo album for all to see
Add a location that can be easily seen from the pavement to a walking trail

Thank you to everyone who responded. The self-guided walk is now ready and you can download it at https://www.marlborough-tc.gov.uk/images/Platinum_Jubilee/Festival_of_Flowers_Walking_Trail_July_2022.pdf. Please note if a garden is private property, enjoy looking at it from the public footpath but please respect the owner's privacy and don't go in.

The Town Council has received some lovely photos from you, but needs more to build an album fit for a Queen!

The festival is running for the whole of July, so why not send a snap of your flowers to include or perhaps a photo of your walk following the walking trail?

Introducing the Marlborough Festival of Flowers, taking place throughout July

As part of the town’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations we’re inviting everyone to get involved in activities to festoon Marlborough with flowers during July 2022. How you choose to get involved is up to you: residents, businesses, pubs, community groups and schools are all invited. There are no rules: the only limit is your imagination and creativity and what you do may include, but not be limited to: Your front garden, a window box, a display in your window …Platinum Jubilee or royal theme optional!

Whatever you decide to do, please let us know: send us a photo, or ask us to come and take one. It would be perfect if your creation could be easily seen from the street so people can come and admire your work. If this is the case, for example a front garden, then let us know and we’ll create a walking trail map so that we can all take a stroll to admire each other’s efforts. If not, a photo for our online gallery will be great too. Remember that simple things like litter picking your street or cleaning windows will add to the overall effect.

We will create a lasting gallery of photos of your displays and creations and publish them on our website and social media. The Festival is just for fun, so no rules, judging or prizes.

We really hope you’ll join us to make Marlborough beautiful with flowers this year. Start planning and, more importantly, start planting!

Could you help us rekindle the tradition of the Wassail in Marlborough?
We've got dozens of trees in the Community Orchard to celebrate, planted all across the town, and we'd love some help to organise a Wassail in January. Morris dancers, Mummers, musicians, Green Men, cider makers, people willing to sing and make a noise....all help welcome. Please get in touch soon!
