🦍DelAgua is proud to share that our Group Chairman and Co-Founder, Neil McDougall, has been selected as an official namer at this year's Kwita Izina ceremony, Rwanda's globally recognized Mountain Gorilla naming tradition, taking place on 4th September at the foothills of Volcanoes National Park.
Tubeho Neza, our clean cooking programme, is advancing the same environmental mission that Kwita Izina champions, safeguarding Rwanda's natural ecosystems through sustained community partnership. Increasing access to energy efficient cookstoves means less pressure on forests, including around the Volcanoes National Park, protecting the habitat that is home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas.
Today more than 1.9 million households across Rwanda have received our improved cookstoves, cutting wood use by 71% and preventing the harvest of 3.1 million tonnes of wood.
Commenting on the announcement, Neil said: “It is a profound honour to be part of this year’s Kwita Izina. Rwanda has been our home and our partner for over a decade, and this recognition belongs as much to our Rwandan team and the communities we work alongside as it does to me personally. Both Kwita Izina and Tubeho Neza champion environmental protection to benefit nature and people and we are proud to stand alongside the Government of Rwanda as a genuine friend of this country and a friend of conservation.”
