One of our Aldbourne scouts, Hester, has been selected as one of the 36 young people to join the Wiltshire Unit for the World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027. She is one of only two from the NE Wilts district to gain a space. The jamboree takes place every 4 years. The fee for UK participants is high, partly because a proportion of the fee for scouts from well-off countries like the UK is directed towards the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) inclusion fund to provide grants and support for Scouts from developing countries to attend the Jamboree. Fundraising is an important aspect of attending the jamboree with scouts expected to put in significant effort to achieving their goals.
Following the success of her ‘Cookies for Rookies’ fundraiser project for St. Michael’s School in 2023, Hester is relaunching her business to raise as much as she can of the £3490 jamboree fee. This is a huge target for a 13 year old. Here’s what you could do to help…
1) Hester is looking for donations of:
- 735ml glass jars with lids (Douwe Egberts Coffee Jars)
- 350ml glass jars with lids (typical jam, beetroot, pickle jar)
- old gift cards (birthday, Christmas etc.)
The jars really do have to be those sizes (the recipes are very carefully worked out).
There is a collection box on the drive at The Old Priest House, 18 West Street. Alternatively please message to arrange for Hester to collect from within Aldbourne.
2) Consider buying from Hester. These cookie jars were really good when she made them in 2023, with excellent feedback on the cookies that they made. It’s a testament to how many test runs she did to get the recipes right and I am very glad that we kept a note of them. Please see the photo for more details.
Very many thanks.
