Markyate Scout Group

With a heavy heart, it looks like we will be closing the doors at Markyate Scout Group.
After a lot of searching for leaders and helpers we only had one gentleman come forward to run Beavers.

I have been involved in scouting most of my life, 42 years of them in Markyate, becoming a leader at the age of 18 and taking over the cub pack as Akela by the age of 21.
I would like to thank everyone that has been involved from my family members, to adult volunteers helping in the back ground, and the volunteers that became leaders. We couldn’t have done it without you and thank you for helping all the young members learn new skills.

If anyone now or in the near future would like to volunteer for any of these sections Squirrels age 4 to 6, Beavers age 6 to 8, Cubs age 8 to 10 1/2, Scouts age 10 1/2 to 14, please contact me or St Albans District Scouts to find out how to start.

Update on what’s happening to save Markyate Scout Group.
Beavers.
We have had one person come forward so far to run Beavers. We just need some more volunteers to help him.
We are looking to reopen Beavers in February on Wednesdays. Only if we can get more help.

Cubs.
No news yet. Please email if interested.
Scouts.
We have 2 leaders but we don’t have enough Scouters age 10 to 13year olds to run the evenings. We need 10 members to reopen. If your child is interested please contact me on my email.

Please help us carry on supporting the youth in the village. Before it’s to late.
