Delighted to have completed some surveys (under licence) of donor sites for this translocation. 🦞😍

White-clawed crayfish help keep our rivers clean by foraging in streams for invertebrates, plants and decomposing matter. They're hydro heroes! 🦞

But these crayfish are sadly endangered and threatened by non-native competitors and disease.

Last year, we worked with a local university to reintroduce white-clawed crayfish into two ponds on their campus. The crayfish will be monitored and we hope that as local numbers recover, a stable population will be established in the area.

Now, the Wilder Waters appeal hopes to raise £100,000 for restoring wildlife like the white-clawed crayfish to our local rivers. Could you help? Visit warwickshirewildlifetrust.org.uk/wilder-waters-appeal

The diving team 🤿 were at Newbold Quarry recently to monitor the crayfish, 🦞 collect some water samples, download the temperature loggers 🧑‍🔬👩‍💻 and do some spring cleaning. This site has been invaded by non-native signal crayfish, which have sadly replaced the native white-clawed crayfish.

We are grateful to Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust for permission to visit thd site.

🤿Today the team were back at a Warwickshire claypit for a litterpick in and under the water. We also downloaded our temperature logger which now has more than 43,000 hourly records!

Today we kicked off our crayfish 🦞 collaboration with University of Leicester as we collected water samples at Hill Hole Quarry for environmental DNA 🧬analysis. The divers also did a litterpick.
