As promised, here is the summary of BCG activities that took place during 2025.
A small team of ladies, Joyce Preece, Linda Todd and Steph Smith, continued to organise Fun Bingo evenings on a bi-monthly basis throughout the year culminating in a “ Christmas Special” in mid-December. The first Bingo evening in 2026 will take place in the evening of the last Thursday in March; the 26th at 7.00pm.
In the intervening months Brian and Joyce Preece organised and ran the Quiz Evenings. The quiz has been running for three years and there will be a new team of question compilers at the first Quiz evening scheduled for the 26th February; also at 7.00pm.
The Summer Fair, organised by Selena Terjung, was a great success with many craft stalls, a childrens’ entertainer, who was appreciated by both the children and the adults. There was also a bouncy castle, with both that, and the entertainer, being possible due to a grant from the Brookenby Parish Council. Further community involvement was demonstrated by live music, organised by Tony Price, the All Angels Cafe providing refreshments and short films being shown in the theatre by Astra in the Wolds. A real community event.
A new event was the Christmas Market held in early November and organised by Sue Young and Selena Terjung. There were 20 stalls and a visit by the Scratch Choir from Binbrook.
The final event of the year, again organised by Selena, was the “Christmas Crimble Bimble” with a record number of households being asked to decorate their windows a display a letter. Families walked the village collecting the letters and solving the well known anagram.
On the community front we continued to provide care for the young trees planted as part of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Project. We are grateful to Carl Mathieson who volunteered to keep the trees clear of grass and BCG provided the appropriate equipment.
We purchased two new benches to replace the old ones along Swinhope Road and paid for their installation.
A community based sewing group made a large number of toilet bags for a local refuge and the BCG provided funds so that the bags could be filled with toiletries and small gifts for the children.
Finally we have been collecting used postage stamps as a fund raising activity in support of St Andrews Hospice. Thanks to All Angels Cafe for agreeing to be a collection point.
Thanks to Dirk Terjung, as our Treasure, for his excellent stewardship of our funds.
All our events are publicised on the Community Notice Board, which the BCG donated in 2024, and on both the BCG and Brookenby Village pages.
We meet on the second Tuesday evening of the month at 7.00pm in the Brookenby Community Centre. In order to keep these community activities going we need some more volunteers. Please come and give a little of your time to support our community.
