Stepping Stones Pre-school Clipston

This week our topic has been dinosaurs. The children have made moving dinosaurs by cutting our shapes and attaching them with split pins, or gluing shapes together. They have made their own unique 'fossils' by using our dinosaur toys to make footprints in clay. They have also been colouring in pictures, completing dot-to-dot pictures and reading dinosaur books. It was ROARSOME! On Thursday, Clare Rogers of came to visit the Forest Schoolers to tell them all about bees and what she does to look after them. We learnt that they have 4 wings, 5 eyes and six legs, and that they have smelly feet which leave scent on flowers to let other bees know they've already visited. We love bees! The children got to try some of Clare's honey for their snack and gave it a big thumbs up. Thank you Clare!

This week our focus has been on occupations and the people that help us, and healthy eating. Within these topics the children have done their own cutting and sticking, mark making and problem solving. Lots of fun and lots of learning! Some of the children also practised writing letters in coloured sand with a paint brush. Also, in Caterpillar News, we have four chrysalides! Another exciting week at Stepping Stones Pre-school, Clipston.

🎹🎺🎸☕️🥤🍪🍰🧁We are SO excited to be providing refreshments again at the Clipston Music Festival this year with the help of the Clipston WI! There was lots going on this week at Stepping Stones Pre-School! We had farm toys out to play with and number puzzles to complete, plus lots of lovely sensory messy activities like painting iceblocks and playing with jelly, and one of our caterpillars has built its chrysalis! The other caterpillars are slowly making their way up to the lid to do the same. We have our fingers firmly crossed that they all get a bit of a wriggle on so that they can emerge as Painted Lady butterflies before half term....🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

🫂🐛 Caterpillar watch 🐛🤩
The children have watched the caterpillars grow enormous this week.
They shed their skins 5 times as caterpillars, and they build the webs as protection. They're currently filling their tummies (with the food at the bottom of the pot) for a final time before they make their way up to the lid of the pot where they will form their chrysalides inside which they will liquify and rearrange their entire body structure to form Painted Lady butterflies 🦋!

This week at Stepping Stones Pre-school we have watched the caterpillars grow bigger and bigger! Some of the children enjoyed a sensory exploration of this tray of 'caterpillars' sitting on leaves. Lots of fantastic, colourful artworks were made, popoids were played with and wonderful constructions were made, and then our Forest Schoolers enjoyed visiting a local farm and feeding the lambs! Another wonderful week!
