An amazing opportunity!

Union Church Margate is looking for an artist to take on one of our two studio spaces, on a skills-swap basis.

Are you a low-income artist looking for affordable studio space? Do you have time but not money? This could be for you.

We’re offering a studio space free of charge, in exchange for four hours of volunteering a week at the church. Ideally you’ll be able to help with:

Thursday mornings at our toddler group, or Fridays at our craft and lunch club
One Sunday a month, 10am–12pm, supporting the AV desk during the service
Ad hoc jobs such as cleaning, painting, gardening and general maintenance

No religion needed, just plenty of enthusiasm. A DBS check is required for this role.

For more information or to express your interest, please email [email protected].

What an opener! We were graced today by and her talk on Kink and Christianity, we can’t wait to share more of what we learned today!

Reminder that Melissa is with us tomorrow....she's already sent the Telegraph readership into a frenzy of pearl clutching with an article. Let's show our support!

Be Still & Know

Artists are historically loners, spending vast amounts of their lives in silence and prayerful states, the residency at Union Church has afforded me some of this solitude back.

This experience of conflict between the joys of solitude and the need for community run through LGBTQ+ artists lives particularly. We’re all struggling. We’re all navigating an unending sea of changes and identity shifts and showing up for each other feels overwhelming when we’re all being battered by the political climate.

This exhibition aims to honour the sanctity of solitude and how time alone brings us space to transform

Please share this open call with anyone that this made you think of

As of April, artist Grace Saint officially began their residency in Union Church

‘I’m really focussing on using this time to try and test myself to find pockets of quiet solitude in such a loud and busy space. It’s been a real journey coming from the somber Catholic mass to such a vibrant community of Christians. I’m interested to see how the environment informs my practice, who knows I might ditch the black and blood tones for yellow, coral and sea foam!’

As part of their residency they are working on a very exciting project that is close to their heart and the work of Union Church. There will be opportunity for input from the local community, so please keep an eye out for announcements in the next few days
