Join us to litter pick and prepare the area for a planting of a new forest at Tivoli Park!

Please dress comfortably for the weather - hats, coats and wellies may be needed!

🎃 Join us Thursday October 27th for a Halloween litter pick!

👻 Ready to get spooky? Join us for some litter picking action dressed in your best Halloween outfits. There’ll be prizes (for the children, sorry adults!) and games of litter picking bingo too.

🐙11am @ Margate Main Sands, meet at our octopus hut. We will provide the equipment, you just need to dress up and turn up!

All children must be accompanied by an adult!

Another beautiful day to keep our beaches clean! Thanks everyone who came out to clean with us today ☀️

Most Margate locals will have seen by now that there is an overturned boat in our harbour. This morning our crew were out on Margate main sands helping to clean what we could from the wreckage.

Despite ours and other locals best efforts to clear up the debris from the boat there’s still a lot there at low tide!

Swipe to see what’s in the harbour (this was underwater this morning so we couldn’t get to it 😔) BUT we did manage to rescue the mattress to the top of the steps, which has now been reported to Thanet District Council.

As always, a huge thank you to our volunteers for this morning! A special shout out to Sylvie who was cleaning today for her Brownie badge!

On World Octopus Day it’s a chance to show off our fab Octopus hut painted by MURAL ARTIST - Louis Michel - where we store all our litter picking equipment and bags for the free refill stations.

Join us there this Sunday at 11am for our community beach clean. Weather forecast is sunny but could be breezy so wrap up!

We all love an octopus for their beauty, intelligence and cheeky behaviours. If you haven’t seen the documentary My Octopus Teacher or read Other Minds by Peter Godfrey-Smith - we’d highly recommend.

Here’s a few facts about these amazing creatures:
(1) Octopuses have THREE hearts
(2) They have one central brain and EIGHT “mini brains” in their arms
(3) They live an average of 1 or 2 years.

Climate change, overfishing and octopus farming threaten octopuses. You can help protect them by avoiding eating them & increasing your plant based diet.

On Sunday 20th September we took part in the Great British Beach Clean with Marine Conservation Society, and now the results of what we found have been published.. and it’s not pretty! 😔

In just one beach clean that covered 100m of Margate Main sands we collected 681 items, 81.9% of which were plastic or polystyrene items. Swipe to see the full breakdown of what we found ➡️

On the same day Thanet Coast Project also had beach cleans at Minnis bay and Pegwell bay which found plenty of rubbish that painted a similar picture.

The results are disappointing but not shocking for us! And just goes to show how vital a beach clean can be to our marine environment. If you’d like to get involved we have more beach cleans coming up over the next few months. The next is this Sunday, 11th October at 11am. We hope to see you there! 🚮

And that’s a wrap on our last Summer beach clean. A huge thank you to all who joined us this weekend, and each week throughout the Summer!

We lead 21 cleans from July-September, collecting 142 bags of rubbish, which is approximately 710kg of litter 👏🏻

This past Sunday was our last weekly beach clean as we’ll be leading monthly cleans going forwards. They will take place on the second Sunday of each month at 11am, starting from October. Please see the second slide for info! 🚮

A huge huge thank you to The Plastic Bag for leading our weekday beach cleans over the Summer! And thanks all who’ve come down to the main sands on a Wednesday morning to clean up the beach together!

That’s it for our weekday cleans for now, BUT you can still come and join us at the weekend. This Sunday 13th September we’ll be hosting a beach clean during the walpoleaquathlon at the Walpole tidal pool at 10am. All equipment provided by us, so please join us for that!

Then normal service will resume the following Sunday - 20th September @ 4pm - at the main sands for our usual Sunday afternoon beach clean.

Updates on future beach cleans will be released soon. But for now we hope to see you either this Sunday or next! And thanks to everyone who has joined us so far, we couldn’t do it all without you 🙏🚮
