Calling all teachers and school staff 🔊

Discover how the Learning Hub on St. Michael's Mount could support your school at our Learning Hub Open Day on Sunday 27 September.

Meet Kerry Rice, Learning Manager, and explore the opportunities available for learning beyond the classroom – from the history and heritage of the castle to Cormoran the Giant, the harbour village and life on the island. Visits can be tailored for learners of all ages, from nursery through to university.

The Open Day is free to attend, with sessions available at 10am, 11am and 12pm. Spaces are limited, so advance booking is essential.

If you work in a school or educational setting and would like to find out what a visit to St Michael’s Mount could offer your students, we’d love to welcome you.

The Exploding Words book festival took place earlier this month and brought primary school pupils from across west Cornwall to Penwith College for a day dedicated to creativity, imagination and the joy of reading.

Supported by the St Aubyn Foundation, children took part in inspiring workshops with authors and illustrators Anna Wilson, Craig Barr-Green and Maia Walczak, discovering how stories are created while building confidence in their own ideas through writing, drawing and storytelling.

It was wonderful to see so many young minds inspired to read, write and create. Thank you to everyone involved in making such a memorable day possible.

We were delighted to welcome 50 Year 3 and Year 4 pupils from Pondhu Primary School to St Michael’s Mount as part of our Learning Hub programme.

Accompanied by 12 staff, the children travelled an 80-mile round trip to spend the day exploring the island’s history and heritage. Together, we shared the stories of the Mount, climbed to the battlements and explored the castle, bringing Cornwall’s past to life beyond the classroom.

For many of the children, the visit also included a memorable boat trip to the island. Thanks to support from the St Aubyn Foundation, boating charges were waived for 24 pupils receiving Pupil Premium funding, helping to ensure every child could enjoy the full experience.

It was a pleasure to welcome Pondhu School for the first time, and we look forward to seeing more Cornish learners on the Mount in the future.

The Learning Hub programme is free for Cornish schools. Teachers can find out more by contacting our Education Team or by attending our event on 27 September - details to follow next month.

Each year, ahead of the season opening on St. Michael's Mount, the garden is quietly shared with local Special Interest Groups for a complimentary guided tour.

This year, 14 groups will visit across four days, including charities and schools connected to the St Aubyn Foundation.

It’s an opportunity to spend time in the garden as it comes into bloom, with space to explore, learn and enjoy the setting before it opens more widely.
