Sherwood Forest Trust We work across the whole wide area that was once Sherwood Forest, to preserve its woodland, heathland, its nature habitats, and its local heritage.

We're a small team with a big vision, and we believe in co-operation and community. By working together smaller organisations and communities have a bigger voice, have more expertise and make better use of resources.

We had a lovely morning on our fungi walk last Sunday, it was so nice to slow down and have a wander around Sherwood Heath and see what we could find.

We have 2 more fungi walks coming up, all ages very welcome, dogs too! 🐕

We have a few spots left for our first fungi walk this Sunday! 🍄

Come for a walk through Sherwood Heath with Erin, and we will look for and identify all the wonderful fungi we find.
We hopefully will also see lots of lichens and some slime moulds too! 🍂

Come along for a tree walk with our Tree Nursery Officer, Izzy, this Wednesday!

You will learn how to identify the magnificent trees of Sherwood Forest, how we collect seed and take them back to our tree nursery where our volunteers sow and grow them.

If there is any seed to collect, we'll do that too! Last time we managed to collect a lot of crab apple 🍏

It's totally free to attend and you'll be helping us in the first step of growing on the future of Sherwood Forest 💚

Our friends over at Active Notts and Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Talking Therapies have one more walk on their series of mental health walks next month. 🚶‍♀️🚶

We all know how beneficial walking and wheeling can be for our mental health and wellbeing whether it's walking round the block, to the shops, round a park, to school or work, up the forest, and whether it's on our own or with others.

This is a lovely opportunity to get out, chat with others, and enjoy nature around us. Kings Mill Res is a great place for wildlife and a prime spot for birdwatching, they have recorded over 100 different bird species there! 🐦

Whether you're dreaming of a community orchard, wildlife-rich hedgerow, woodland planting, or another tree project that brings people and nature together, we'd love to explore your idea with you.

Join us this October and learn about the wonderful world of fungi.
We'll have a walk through Sherwood Heath to find and identify all the different types of fungi, lichens, and even some slime moulds if we can find them! 🍂

Next month, we'll be joining our good friends over at Feel Good Gardens for their spectacular FREE Autumn event!

We'll be there to talk about what we do, and you can learn all about collecting, processing and growing seeds from local native trees and why it is so important to stay local when it comes to growing trees!

There is a jam packed day of creating and learning, as well as delicious food and refreshments from Feel Good Garden's own kitchen. It is all seasonal, local, and home cooked.

The management of the scorched area on Oak Tree Heath is well underway🔥

Whilst the group started clearing the burnt scrub and heather, one of our volunteers, Steve, used his drone to snap some photos so we can see the extent of the fire damage 📷

It is a upsetting to see but will be great for us to be able to monitor progress and spot any encroaching scrub before it outcompetes the heather. It is going to be a long process as heather can take 2 to 5 years to re-establish!🌱

Without the support of our fantastic volunteers, we would really struggle. Before the fire, the task list was already really long and now we have a new type of landscape to work with.

If you have a spare couple of hours on a Wednesday morning, meet us outside Oak Tree Leisure Centre at 10am. Gloves, tools and biscuits are provided 🍪

Thank you to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for supporting our the management of our heathlands.
