It was an honour for me as the Milkstone and Deeplish Ward councillor to welcome The Young Khadims Volunteers to Sparth Islamic centre.

These young people were on a sponsored walk around Rochdale’s Mosques for charity. It was great to see their passion and commitment to communities.

Keep going lads!!!

Today I remember the 72 innocent lives lost in the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy. Seven years on, families and survivors are still waiting for full justice, accountability and meaningful change.

Grenfell exposed devastating failures that should never have happened. We owe it to those who died, the survivors and the wider community to ensure lessons are truly learned and that no community is ever treated as disposable again.

I remember them today and stand with all those continuing to demand justice for Grenfell.

NEC Majority Plunge PCS Union into Constitutional Crisis.

They don’t care about the rules, the members or protecting what we have built over 20 years.

They want to destroy our Union and we won’t let them.

Join the fight to reclaim our Union.

Thursday’s (11th June) NEC meeting should have been the first full, post-conference meeting of the union’s executive where important decisions would have been taken on implementing ADC policy, on p…

My latest weekly update as Councillor for Milkstone and Deeplish Ward – 12/06/2026

This week I reflect on a number of important issues affecting our communities, including the tragic murder of Henry Nowak, the stabbing of Stephen Ogilvie, and the growing threat of racism and the far right which must always be challenged and defeated.

I also share updates on local work taking place in our ward, including exciting plans for Stoneyfield Park, the resurfacing works on Ashfield Road, and the importance of our Area Forums in giving residents a stronger voice.

As always, I remain committed to standing up for residents and delivering on the issues that matter most to our community.

If you are a resident of Milkstone and Deeplish and need support, please do get in touch.

I promised to listen to residents in the election campaign and so I joined Cllr Minaam Ellahi to our first site visit to Stoneyfield Park in Milkstone and Deeplish where following on from residents’s feedback they wanted outdoor gym equipment to be installed for the use of all.

I heard you and together we are delivering for you. Exciting plans to be developed and will be shared.

This is the consequences of the anti Muslim rhetoric which has been normalised.

Solidarity and love the family of this Imam.

Last night people of colour were deliberately targeted, their homes firebombed and awful acts of violence in Belfast.

There is no justification for such violence.

When you only care when crimes are carried out by people of colour and silent with crimes of white peoples we call that racism.

We see you.

It was an honour to join friends in Bradford for the annual Urs Mubarak at Eidgah Sharif, where I had the privilege of speaking about the growing threat of the far right.

I spoke about the importance of standing united against racism and hatred, and reaffirmed that we are proud to be British while celebrating the diversity and values that strengthen our communities.

Racism and extremism must always be challenged and defeated through unity, respect and solidarity.

Many residents from Milkstone and Deeplish Ward are currently stranded in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and are deeply concerned by the rising levels of violence, internet restrictions, and difficulties travelling safely.

I call on the authorities in Pakistan and the AJK Government to engage in meaningful dialogue to reduce tensions, protect the right to peaceful protest, and uphold international human rights obligations.

Any resident requiring help or support is encouraged to email [email protected].
