Our team member Beatrice shares her reflections on developing leadership skills across our workforce:
“I'm really proud of the power of distributed leadership at Afrocats.
Recently, one of our team members took part in a Physical Literacy development programme, bringing back valuable insights on co-design, accessibility, active listening and systems change. The experience reinforced something we strongly believe: leadership and project development skills should not sit solely with managers. These skills should be developed across the whole workforce.
When assistants, coordinators and practitioners understand how change is designed, tested, delivered and embedded, they become stronger leaders, better advocates and more effective champions for young people and communities.
For me, the biggest learning is that if we want young people to shape services and systems, we must first equip our workforce with the tools and confidence to understand and lead change themselves.
