A few nice ones from the last week. The grid cups worked out beautifully, and the dragon fly was an intricate surprise.

Turning a bowl. A lovely process to do on a well thrown piece, but quite a tricky technique on a wonky pot.

I love the scooping sound the flexible metal kidney makes.

Happy new year everyone!

It's so nice to see the pots you create pouring out our kilns! You can store your beans in them among other things, and as long as you don't accidentally drop your tin of beans on them then they should last thousands of years! Family heir looms. Generations will be having beans from them. Created in great company.

This year we've had our first year in the new studio, many new and familiar faces, a Manchester city photo shoot, and even our first pottery baby from a studio couple ❤️ (congrats!). So here's to another year of beautiful pots and social studio sessions.

Turning the large bowl from a previous reel.

Too big for the wheel head, I used a square board and no splash tray. Needed to sit far back so the corners didn't hit my legs and there was a nice cleanup afterwards too. After slap centring, the bowl stayed still enough from it's own weight so it wasn't necessary to pin it down, as long as too much pressure wasn't applied.

Not sure yet how it will be glazed.

Many pots from our latest 12 week throwing course. So excited to see how these come out their glaze firing over the next week.

The next course starts 20th Jan, get on it. Just let us know if you'd like to do a different time, we may just run it.

Wheel throwing a large bowl with stoneware clay, at our Manchester pottery studio.

Throwing bigger usually means throwing a lot slower, as a speedy wheel can force the clay wider.

Making a lemon juicer.

It starts a bit like throwing a clay doughnut with a hole in the middle. The main part is a bulb made from a closed cylinder.

When turning I used a clay doughnut I was trimming beforehand as a chuck to hold the lemon squeezer upside down. I usually improvise with chucks when making objects we don't regularly produce.
