🌱 What makes an allotment special?

During National Allotments Week, we've been celebrating everything that makes these spaces so much more than somewhere to grow a few vegetables.

They're places to grow food, support wildlife, get creative, spend time outdoors and bring people together.

♻️ And reclaimed wood can play a part in all of it.

From raised planters and rustic edging to wildlife-friendly features, reclaimed timber can be transformed into something practical, beautiful and useful.

And, of course, allotments aren't just for the grown-ups!

We love creating mud kitchens from reclaimed wood, giving perfectly good timber a new lease of life while creating a space for children to get outdoors, get their hands dirty and let their imaginations run wild.

Because that's what we love about reclaimed wood. It's not simply about keeping materials out of the waste stream — it's about seeing their potential and giving them a new purpose.

🐝A bug hotel can support wildlife.
🌿A mud kitchen can inspire hours of imaginative play.

Small changes. Big impact. And lots of character.

🌱 Allotments aren't just for the grown-ups!

There’s something pretty special about watching children get stuck into the great outdoors - getting their hands dirty, exploring, creating and, of course, making a lot of mud!

🌿So why not give the little ones their own space to get creative?

This brilliant mud kitchen was handcrafted by Touch Wood using reclaimed timber, giving old wood a new purpose while creating a space for hours of outdoor imaginative play.

Because an allotment can be so much more than somewhere to grow vegetables. It can be a place to learn, explore, play and make memories together.

🚴In exactly twelve months from today, some of the world's greatest female cyclists will ride through Greater Manchester as the Tour de France Grand Départ arrives on our doorstep.

But did you know we already have a remarkable piece of cycling history sitting right here in our workshop?

Back in 2018, Touch Wood rescued sections of the iconic Manchester Velodrome track when it was replaced. The very same Siberian spruce boards that carried Olympic champions, World Champions and record-breaking performances have since been lovingly transformed into bespoke furniture and keepsakes.

Every plank still bears the marks of its former life. Every piece tells a story.
As excitement builds towards the Grand Départ in 2027, we're looking back at how one of Britain's most famous sporting surfaces found a new purpose—and how you could own a genuine piece of cycling history.
