We've hit a few hurdles and need some more time to get the hub up and running.

We don't think we can get the hub ready for 4th June now, so we're cancelling the relaunch event to make sure we have more time to get things set up right.

We know everyone is eager for us to reopen, and we'll be trying as hard as we can to be back for our community as soon as possible.

Keep following here for further updates, and we'll see you all again very soon!

So we can finally make the announcement we've all been waiting for: The Q***r Unity Hub is coming back!

Our free community cafe will soon be opening weekly out of Mosaic in Manchester City Centre. And we'll be continuing to launch new projects, events, and programmes as we go.

Things will look a little different, but the commitment to supporting those in our community who need it most won't ever be changing.

Our Grand Reopening will be on 4th June, and will be opening every Thursday afternoon and evening thereafter.

Thank you all so much for your patience during the long months and for bearing with us as we found a new home.

We're so excited to see everyone again soon!

Look out for an update for us very soon! đź‘€

Following on from our previous statement and in line with our core principle of transparency, we would like to give a summary of some of the reasons why we have decided to no longer operate from the Sidney Street LGBT+ Centre (also known as “The Proud Place”).

Although we have given them many opportunities to do so, The Proud Trust (who manages the building) has refused to engage positively with us, and has repeatedly shown us that their values do not align with ours. We can no longer subject our volunteers to the stress, uncertainty and harassment which has unfortunately been the pattern of this attempted collaboration.

In response to the last email we sent to them (which we previously shared here), The Proud Trust has:
- Not explained why we had to suspend operations when all other community groups could continue.
- Chosen to impose formal investigation/complaints procedures to deal with minor issues which could easily have been resolved with friendly conversation.
- Not provided evidence of any significant wrongdoing by Q***r Unity Hub or our team.
- Criticised the fact that we are transparent with our community, framing this as “attempting to apply external pressure”.
- Threatened yet another “investigation” (on a topic not disclosed).
- Not even acknowledged our offer to participate in team-building activities to help build positive communication between our teams going forward.
- Only agreed to “consider” re-instating the sharps bin that they removed from the building.
- Not shared their policies with us, which we asked for so that we could avoid situations like this in the future.
- Told us that we would have to pay upwards of ÂŁ2,800 per month to hire the space for our normal operations going forward - significantly more than the ÂŁ500 a month donation we had agreed to for December and January.

Q***r Unity Hub offered a sustainable model which would have helped to generate funding for the building whilst serving the community; we were willing to work for free, giving hundreds of volunteer hours a month. At the same time, we were recording impact and outcomes which the Proud Trust could have used to secure funding, thereby guaranteeing a future for the LGBT+ Centre.

We are aware that The Proud Trust is recruiting for a new building and events manager, and it is our sincere hope that this new member of staff is given the freedom to shape this space for the benefit of the people it was built for.

We are deeply saddened to let you know that, following a unanimous decision made at a Stakeholder Meeting with our community, Q***r Unity Hub will no longer be operating from the Manchester LGBT+ centre on Sidney Street, otherwise known as “The Proud Place”.

We will share a summary of the details shared at the Stakeholder Meeting, and the reasons for this decision, in a separate post.

It’s important to note that we do not question the need for the Proud Trust’s youth services or the dedication and skill of their brilliant youth workers and live chat operators, who provide incredible support to LGBTQ+ young people and for whom we have the utmost respect.

However, as custodians of Manchester’s LGBT+ Centre, the Proud Trust has failed in its responsibility to ensure the building serves the whole community, especially the most marginalised. We strongly encourage the board and senior management of The Proud Trust to reflect on this outcome and consider what mistakes were made and what lessons could be learned.

To our community:

We cannot begin to say how sorry we are for no longer being able to provide the services you need, or offer the welcoming home we once did. The seven weeks Q***r Unity Hub operated were some of the most fulfilling ever had by our team, and we are dedicated to building this again in a new place.

As ever we are very open to hearing your views, and you can contact us at QUH@Q***rUnityHub.org.

In line with our principle of transparency, we will be publishing more information about our departure soon, and also hopefully around our plans for the future.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported us, met with us, or just came and shared in our space. We could not have done any of this without you.

Our community deserves a warm, safe and free home, and we will keep trying to build it.

📣 Now more than ever we need to hear what you want, what you need, and what you think. We're holding another Stakeholder meeting to discuss the future of Q***r Unity Hub, hear your views, and make sure that our community has a home that meets its needs.

📍 Join us at Manchester Museum in the Top Floor Classroom at 2pm on Saturday 28th February. Open to all members of Manchester's LGBTQ+ Community and allies.

Oh, friends. This isn't the post we wanted to bring you today. We were very much hoping that we'd be able to tell you that we would be back to normal operations tomorrow, but unfortunately that won't be happening.

Two weeks ago, The Proud Trust asked us to stop operating, pending an investigation into some items which were found in the space. One item (a sharps bin in the toilets) was placed there by us. The other items were not. A week ago, we sent them an email, asking for a response by today. We received an acknowledgement to that email but we haven't yet had a response.

For transparency, we are now sharing that email here. Since reading text from an image is either difficult or impossible for some people, so you can find a link to a plain text version of the email in our linktree.

We are still working behind the scenes with The Proud Trust, with the aim of getting Q***r Unity Hub back open as soon as we possibly can.

However, we unfortunately will not be operating on Saturday 7th February.

We will let you know as soon as we have any updates, but in the meantime, if you need support (however small), please drop us a line on [email protected] and we'll see what we can do to help.

This is just a quick post to let you all know that we've not yet been given permission to reopen.

We contacted The Proud Trust yesterday, to let them know why we believe Q***r Unity Hub is so important, and suggest some small steps that we could all take towards getting us back up and running.

We're hopeful that we'll have some positive news for you soon.

We know how disappointing this is for all of our visitors, volunteers and supporters, but we just want to let you know that we as a team are doing everything we can to ensure the future of Q***r Unity Hub.

In the meantime, please do contact us by email on [email protected] if you need any support during our temporary closure.

Such a joy to have (Guiders Against Trans Exclusion North-West England) in the hub today.

We were so happy that we could offer you a space to rest and get warm after the protest. All girls deserve the kind of supportive and inclusive leaders we met today. Keep fighting the good fight - there's a whole lot of people in your corner!
