Protecting children and giving babies the begins before they're even born

The 2026/27 Flu Immunisation Programme highlights the importance of flu vaccination for pregnant women and children, helping to protect families during the winter months when viruses are most common

Pregnant women are eligible for a free flu vaccination from 1 September 2026 at any stage of pregnancy, alongside children aged 2 and 3 years and school-aged children up to Year 11

At Family Hubs, we know that supporting families early helps children thrive

Vaccination can help reduce illness, protect vulnerable family members and keep children healthy and ready to learn

The programme also aims to improve access and reduce health inequalities so that every family can get the support they need

Some parents may have questions about whether flu vaccines are halal. The injectable flu vaccine offered to pregnant women does not contain porcine gelatine. If your child is offered the nasal spray flu vaccine and you have religious concerns, speak to your GP, school immunisation team or healthcare professional about available alternatives
