Community Bulb Planting Event !!!!

As our work continues to brighten up Sparrow Wood/Park (depending on your memory of our area !), we have now ordered about 1,000 bulbs and have set a date of November 1st for our’Bulb Planting Event’ when hopefully many members of our community can come out to help us plant 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

This will be a true family event with hopefully adults and children planting together (tools provided) and we can all wait with anticipation for a beautiful spread of colour in the spring as daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells spring into life and carpet the area

Event will commence following service at Roe Green Church

Grafter’s spread their wings to Beesley Green 🦋

Having spotted some ‘hidden’ benches on Beesley Green our Grafters cleared overgrown vegetation today revealing them for all to use

The before and after photos show the difference and we hope our local residents enjoy taking a pause here before or after a stroll in Worsley Woods

Big thanks from MacMillan Cancer Care !

to all our local residents who came along to the MacMillan Cancer Care Coffee and cake morning at Roe Green Cricket Club

We were delighted and overwhelmed by how many lovely cakes and homemade biscuits were brought along !

The room was buzzing , stories being shared and a true community spirit was everywhere as we all came together to support this worthwhile cause !

We are still totting up the donations made in cash on the day and combining with online donations received.

Anybody unable to make it in person yesterday can still support MacMillan Cancer Care online via our event specific QR code which we will post on here later today

Thanks again to everybody - volunteer helpers, cake and biscuit makers plus our wonderful community members 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Extra Christmas Lights being Installed !

If you’ve wandered round our green today you may have seen much activity with men in high vis jackets with cherry pickers installing recently purchased extra tree wrapped lights ready for later in the year !

Thanks to the great generosity of our community , this year we have been able to light up alternate trees on Greenleach Lane and two trees outside Roe Green Church

This is in addition to the annual trees illuminated by Salford Council who have been really helpful in facilitating this process

With each new tree decorated costing about £1000 for installation plus the need for us to pay for installation of some additional electrical infrastructure to support the extended display and some ongoing maintenance , we have exhausted last years funds collectively raised by us all and match funded by Salford Council !

We hope you all enjoy the extended display and we welcome ideas for future extensions to the lights as we plan to hold a further crowdfunder in the New Year guided by our Community

Big thanks also to Bob Clarke for his help arranging clearance of some tree branches that needed to be removed during the installation

This coming Friday 25th September 10-12 will see our weekly Community Cafe raising funds for MacMillan Cancer Care

Lots of home baked cakes and good coffee for all
