⚽🤝 5-a-Side Friendly in Oldham! 🤝⚽

Our Beeing Together young people recently travelled to Oldham to take part in a friendly 5-a-side match against the Oldham Care Leavers team. It was a brilliant afternoon filled with energy, teamwork and healthy competition. Both teams gave their all, creating an exciting match with plenty of great football and lots of smiles along the way. 🙌

For our separated asylum-seeking and refugee young people, football is much more than just a game. It creates opportunities to connect with others, make new friends and feel part of something bigger. Football has a unique way of bringing people together, regardless of background, culture or language. 🌍⚽

Through this game, young people had the opportunity to:

✨ Build confidence by trying new things and stepping outside their comfort zones

✨ Develop discipline, teamwork, and communication skills

✨ Strengthen social connections and create new friendships

✨ Learn how to overcome challenges and support one another

💚 Many of our young people have experienced significant challenges, and activities like this provide a positive space where they can relax, have fun and focus on their wellbeing.

A huge thank you to the Oldham Care Leavers team for a fantastic game and for making the day so enjoyable. We look forward to the next one! 👏⚽

GMYN says thank you and farewell to our lovely Humerah, who joined GMYN as our Lived Experience Facilitator, helping to shape resources and tools for care leavers, by care leavers.

Over the past nine months, Humerah has been at the heart of some incredible work, helping to deliver training to housing professionals, co-produce resources with care-experienced young people, and support the development of Care Let; a programme designed by care-experienced young people, for care-experienced young people.

Reflecting on her time at GMYN, Humerah shared:

🗨️ "What started as a short-term role became one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had in my life."

And perhaps most importantly:

🗨️ "If sharing my story or experiences could help even one person feel less alone or more prepared, then it was worth it.”

From delivering training across Greater Manchester to helping create practical, honest resources for young people moving into independent living, Humerah has challenged assumptions, strengthened our approach to co-production, and ensured lived experience remained at the heart of our work.

As she moves on to her next chapter, we're proud to share her reflections on growth, confidence, and the power of youth voice to create real change.

🌟Our Young People’s Job Club has been a huge success, running every week throughout the summer and helping young people build the confidence, skills and connections they need to take their next steps towards employment.
Thanks to Westwood’s support, young people can access consistent, practical support to become work ready — from developing their CVs and meeting employers, to building confidence and receiving encouragement, advice and interview tips. This ongoing support helps young people move from thinking about work to feeling ready to take that next step. We’re incredibly grateful to Westwood Recruitment for helping make these opportunities possible and for investing in young people’s futures.

🌍 International Youth Day 2026 🌍

Today we're celebrating the incredible young people across Greater Manchester who inspire us every day.

This year's theme, "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," recognises that while young people's experiences may be different, their hopes for connection, opportunity, wellbeing and a positive future are often the same.

At GMYN, we're proud to support young people to overcome barriers, build confidence and shape their own futures.

In 2025 alone, we supported 721 young people across Greater Manchester, with:
💙 84% improving their wellbeing
⭐ 80% increasing their confidence to take the lead in their own lives
🤝 87% strengthening their sense of belonging in their communities
🚀 78% developing skills for their next steps in education or employment
From young people improving their wellbeing through yoga, to SEND and disabled young people expressing their creativity, care-experienced young people exploring cultural spaces, and young people supporting one another into employment, these moments show that with the right support, .

Thank you to everyone who helps ensure every young person feels confident, connected and capable of great things.

📣 Cooking Sessions | Manchester Care Leavers Project 🍔🍕🍌

Our monthly cooking sessions give young people the chance to learn new skills, build confidence, and connect with others in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Over recent sessions, young people have cooked everything from smash beef burgers and lasagna to banana bread and homemade pizzas, all while developing their independence and learning about healthy eating.

💛 The impact goes far beyond cooking. We've seen young people grow in confidence, try new foods, and build meaningful friendships. During one recent session, a young person who experiences anxiety around using public transport was encouraged by another young person to catch the bus home together. Moments like these highlight the power of creating safe spaces where young people can support and empower one another.

The Manchester Care experienced programmes are well underway for Summer 2026. ☀️

🧗‍♀️ Last week, GMYN took a group of Manchester Care-experienced young people to Rock Over Climbing in Manchester for an action-packed afternoon of bouldering!

From tackling tricky routes to cheering each other on, there were plenty of challenges, lots of laughs, and even more chalk. Some climbs were tougher than others, but everyone gave it their best and had a fantastic time.

A huge well done to all the young people who got involved! 💪✨

📢 Today we're launching our new report

Listen Better: Strengthening Care-Experienced Youth Voice Across Greater Manchester.

As part of the first phase of our three-year care-experienced youth voice programme funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, we've spent the past six months listening to care-experienced young people, practitioners, local authorities and voluntary organisations across Greater Manchester.

The report brings together these conversations to explore what's working well, where there are gaps, and how we can strengthen care-experienced participation across the city region.

We hope it helps support a more connected and consistent approach to care-experienced participation across Greater Manchester.

1️⃣ Youth Advocacy Lead 📣
Help us embed self-advocacy across GMYN and work alongside care-experienced and separated young people to influence housing reform and shape regional systems. You’ll lead our new We Rise project and help shift how our organisation listens to and shares power with young people.

Salary: £29,269 per year
Hours: Full-time (35 hrs/week)

2️⃣ Programme Coordinator – Separated Young People 🤝
Join our Beeing Together project team, delivering trauma-informed group activities (like language groups, life skills, sports) and 1:1 support for separated and age-disputed young people. You’ll build trusted relationships, foster youth voice, and help young people achieve their goals.

Salary: £27,803 per year
Hours: Full-time (35 hrs/week)
Deadline: Monday 24th August (9am)

✨Building Aspirations ✨

We have been working with UK Youth and Intact Insurance over the summer to help young people build aspirations! We have worked with nearly 25 young people in workshops exploring dream careers and setting goals to get there, as well as looking at managing finances, budgeting and the different routes into work.

This has all been with the help of our Intact Insurance volunteers, who have offered helpful insights and advice throughout - a big thank you to them!
