In our latest Youth Voices interview series, we hear from Jorja, a young Mancunian who is passionate about young people having an active voice in their communities. Jorja talks openly about the cost of living, education and why trust in political leaders has fallen, as well as what gives her hope for the future.

She also shares her thoughts on Andy Burnham, from the changes she’s seen in Greater Manchester to what she’d want to see from him as a national leader. And if she had the chance to say one thing to those leading the country? 💬 “Don’t let us down.”

What if your ideas could shape the future?
We're building a youth activism movement from the ground up and we're looking for a powerhouse group of 16–25-year-olds from across Greater Manchester to co-design a youth strategy rooted in compassionate critical thinking.

Through a series of workshops and online masterclasses, 8 participants will co-create, shape and lead the direction of The Rekindle Collective’s youth activism strand of work.

The programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation, and will support participants in developing a sense of agency as they explore their own ideas with us and help shape how we design and deliver our future programmes. Participants will also receive a £500 honorarium for their time, commitment and engagement with the programme.

🎧 Last week, Hulme turned up the volume! Our free Music Production session with Balraj (aka Deejay Samrai) was packed with creativity, collaboration and young people 11-15 years, bringing their ideas to life.

A huge thank you to Nehru for helping facilitate such a brilliant session alongside Balraj. Together they created a space where everyone could have a go, experiment and make some incredible music 🎶

Last week at Rekindle Tulse Hill, it's been brimming with creativity, conversation and young people trying something new. From interactive games, hands-on art and making, to critical thinking workshops and shared meals, every session is designed to be a space where young people can learn, create, ask questions and simply enjoy being together.

Our Tulse Hill home is more than just a youth programme. It's a soulful sanctuary where education, wellbeing and critical thinking come together through creativity and community.

"Yes, it needs to be safer, but we shouldn't be totally banned from it. We need to be trusted to engage with the world around us." ‼️🗣️ Artist, musician and DJ Alfie shares an honest perspective on growing up online, reflecting on both the positives and the harms of social media.

From finding a platform for his creativity to experiencing bullying and harassment, he asks whether the focus should be on making online spaces safer, rather than banning young people from them altogether.

As part of our written Youth Voices series, exploring the proposed under-16 social media ban, we're handing the conversation over to the people it affects most.
