On Saturday 27th June there's a big conference in Manchester about 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 as part of the 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

Our Branch was represented over the Pennines in Sheffield at the weekend as members joined the annual Orgreave march with their Equity flags.

The event commemorated the 42nd anniversary of the police riot at Orgreave and celebrated the great Miners’ Strike of 1984/5.

We had a brilliant time at the weekend learning about all what Manchester has offered to the cause of the worker over the years on our 𝙍𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙒𝙖𝙡𝙠 led by Equity staff member, Kirsten Muat.

There's a new version of 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚 𝙎𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 out that was first used at Conference last month and that we also used at our latest Branch Meeting. The old 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚 𝙎𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 statement still stands but it's more for places of work. The 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 is more geared towards (you guessed it!) meetings. ✊

There are two big events coming up across the Pennines. This Saturday in Sheffield it's the 42nd anniversary of one of the major events of the miners' strike - Orgreave. Then on Saturday 11th July it's the Durham Miners' Gala.
If anyone wants to go to either then get in touch, we may be able to help with your travel.

We all know that times are tough for many of us. If you are struggling financially then do reach out for help. Equity's Benevolent Fund might be able to help pretty quickly with small amounts (or if you're struggling with your union subs) but there are other charities that you can also apply to. You aren't on your own.
