Atherton had a fantastic time at the Lancashire Rapidplay Championships! Thanks so much to Lancashire and Crusaders Club for organising the event.

It was a great turnout! 8 intrepid players made their way to Blackburn, avoiding the 4000 holes on the way.

It was great to see our 4 juniors playing in their usual fearless style and getting some great wins. We had more juniors there than any other club!

Pete dusted off the cobwebs and managed to score 5/6 but lost out on tiebreak.

It was very close on the team prize with Clitheroe winning on 14, Crusaders 2nd with 13, and Atherton 3rd on 12 . But regardless of the actual scores Atherton literally stole the show!

*No trophies or prizes were stolen, pictures only 😜*

Well done Atherton Chess Club! 👏👏

Thinking about joining a chess club?♟️

Or maybe you have a spare evening or two this week, and you're wondering what to do now the nights are getting darker?🥶

Joining a new club might feel a bit daunting - especially if you think everyone else if going to be a chess grand master! (absolutely not the case 🤣)

You can come along, have a casual game, and meet new people without needing to know everything first 🙂

Beginners are very welcome!

Plenty of different sessions throughout the week - pick one... two... or as many as you like and come say hello!

Come for the chess. Stay for the people!

♟️ CHESS LOOKS COMPLICATED… BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE!

64 squares. 32 pieces. Lots of rules.

It can look a bit intimidating when you’re starting out - but you only need to learn a little at a time.

At Atherton Chess Club, we welcome complete beginners and can help you learn at your own pace.

Start with how the pieces move. Then play a few games. Before you know it, you'll be wondering why your opponent keeps taking your queen. 😂
