Manchester Young Lives Manchester Young Lives is a registered charity that works with children & young people in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Manchester.

About Us

Our work was originally centred on the development and management of adventure playgrounds in Ardwick, Moss Side, Hulme, and Wythenshawe. In recent years we have successfully developed a number of youth work and educational/training programmes, particularly targeted at children and young people at risk of social exclusion. The culmination of these efforts was the establishment of Manchester Young Lives Independent School in 2010. We believe the integration of play, confidence building, and education within an informal and supportive environment provides a genuine opportunity for early intervention with children and young people who are at risk of falling outside mainstream services and becoming involved in anti-social and risky behaviours. Our work includes
•Adventure playgrounds – Providing year-round after school and holiday open access play facilities for 5-14 year olds. A safe and supportive environment for children and families.
•Independent School – The A6, Moss Side and Wythenshawe Education Centres provide full time education provision for 14-16 year olds not attending mainstream school. Offering a broad and balanced curriculum and qualifications (including GCSE and Functional Skills), the school aims to support young people in the completion of their secondary education, and in taking the next steps to further learning and employment.
•Youth engagement projects – Based at four of our centres, these projects offer a range of centre based and outreach provision aimed at developing personal and social skills and supporting young people into education, training and employment
•A purpose built youth fitness centre in Ardwick. Funded by Sport England.

A huge congratulations to our Tough Mudders for raising over £4,600 for our Stepping Stones Appeal on Saturday!

Our team faced mud, rain, electric shocks and vats of cold water, working together to get over the obstacles and complete the course 💪

A huge thank you to the team from Palatine Private Equity whose monumental efforts (and willingness to get very muddy) provided a huge boost to our fundraising goals 😊

All funds raised during this Tough Mudder will go towards our Stepping Stones Appeal to rebuild The Addy's Adventure playground which, after over 20 years of continuous use, is in need of refurbishment. We would also like to thank everyone who donated to our Tough Mudder team: any amount given, big or small, will make a huge difference to our appeal.

Our October playscheme is back! 🍂🍂🍂

Join us for a week of playscheme during the October half term, with games, arts and crafts, and seasonal activities all on offer!

Our playschemes are completely free of charge, and include a hot meal along with snacks and refreshments 😊

Play sessions run from 12-4 pm, Monday to Thursday at A6 and The Addy, and Tuesday to Friday at Moss Side. 🕑🕑

The last of the MYL Tough Mudders: our fantastic trustee, Jeff Mills!

It's hard to believe, but our MYL and Palatine team will be taking part in the Manchester Tough Mudder tomorrow!

Every pound raised during our sponsored Tough Mudder will go towards our Stepping Stones Appeal to rebuild The Addy's adventure playground which, after 25 years of continuous use, has reached the end of its useful lifespan 🙌 🙌 🙌

While he is looking forward to the big day, Jeff is now starting to dread the idea of the start line, but having worked with children and young people for over 40 years, he knows how to be adaptable and get himself to the end of the course!

We are looking for a volunteer to help us with our website! 🙌🙌🙌

We want the Manchester Young Lives website to be an online space that can be easily accessed by children, young people, learners, parents, carers and corporate partners.

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who has experience working as either a website coder or website developer to help us to get our website up to scratch.

This role would require two hours of volunteering work per week for a period of two months, to identify issues with our current system and work with staff to make our website easy to use, and up to date.

We would be particularly keen to hear from you if you have any familiarity with WordPress, SiteGround and DIVI plugins (2019 version).

A huge congratulations to Vella Groups Marketing Executive, Talia Foxler, who raised over £700 for MYL on Sunday when she took part in a sponsored half marathon run!

This donation will go directly into our Stepping Stones Appeal to rebuild the Addy’s Adventure playground at our Wythenshawe site which, after over 20 years of continuous use, has reached the end of its useful lifespan.

MYL x Palatine Tough Mudder team! 🔥🔥🔥

Palatine’s fundraising evening last week was a great opportunity for us to touch base with some of the members of Palatine staff, Heather, Kieran, Abeer, Ryan and Elle, who will be teaming up with us for our Tough Mudder!

A huge thank you to Palatine Private Equity who held a fantastic fundraising evening on Wednesday, and raised a staggering £11,880 for our Stepping Stones Appeal!

Our CEO and deputy CEO were delighted to attend the event, and share the impact that this donation will have for our Stepping Stones Appeal, and the lives of children and young people across Manchester.

Thanks also to all of the corporate partners who attended the night, took part in our fundraising raffle, and individually donated to our appeal.

These generous donations have helped us to move another step closer to refurbishing The Addy’s adventure playground, and represent a significant investment into the lives of children and young people in Wythenshawe.

Meet our next Tough Mudder🔥 🔥 🔥

On the 10th of October, Ruth, alongside the rest of her MYL and Palatine team, will take on a sponsored Mudder UK !

Every pound raised will support our Stepping Stones Appeal to redevelop the adventure playground at The Addy, our Wythenshawe centre which, after over 20 years of continuous use, is reaching the end of its useful lifespan.

Ruth has admitted that she is pretty much completely unprepared for this challenge, but has said that she's 'recently started going on a few 5k runs without the obstacles, so how hard can it be?'
