It was great to see those that came along to tonights meeting to talk about the ongoing anti-social behaviour in Monton and the surrounding areas.
The meeting was attended by Salford Police - GMP, the youth outreach teams and community support at Salford Council, our local councillors and Michael Wheeler MP. Thank you to everyone who gave their time to listen, answer questions and hear directly from residents.
There was a LOT discussed, but we wanted to update you on the main themes that came through:
1. Please keep reporting incidents.
Police explained that they are maintaining as much presence in the area as current resources allow, including on the Greenway and in other areas where issues have been reported. Every report helps build a clearer picture of what’s happening, where and when, and can help inform where police resources are focused. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999. For general anti-social behaviour, use 101 or the police online reporting service via the link below.
2. Some action is already being taken.
Police confirmed that several individuals linked to some of the recent incidents have been identified and are already known to them. We were told that appropriate legal action is being taken, with the hope that this will also have an effect on the wider group.
3. It can’t just be about moving people on.
There was a lot of discussion about prevention too. Police, council teams and local councillors spoke about working with schools, youth services and housing providers, particularly where individuals have already been identified. The aim is to look at the wider picture around those involved and use the different support and intervention routes available, rather than relying on policing alone.
4. Communal areas, the Swinton Greenway and illegal e-bikes remain a very big concern.
Dangerous riding, groups gathering and issues around the Bradford Road bridge, Monton Green and Chatsworth Road came up a number of times. Additional CCTV on the Greenway was also discussed, although it was acknowledged that extending coverage across such a long route would be very difficult.
5. People want to feel safe in their own community.
A number of residents spoke about changing when or where they walk because of what has been happening and a real concern raised throughout the evening.

If there was ONE consistent takeaway from the evening, it was to keep reporting what you see. Even where something may feel small in isolation, those reports help build the wider picture of what is happening across the area and where current and future resources can be deployed.
If you have CCTV, doorbell footage or photos that may help, these can also be submitted where it is safe to do so. We MUST reiterate that only when it is SAFE to do so. Police were clear that nobody should put themselves at risk in order to capture footage or photographs.

As an association, we wanted to add that Monton remains a brilliant place to live and a community we’re really proud of. The issues discussed tonight are important and need addressing, but they shouldn’t overshadow everything that makes this area special. If anything, tonight showed how much people care about where they live and how willing the community is to come together when it matters.
