we are proud to celebrate the successful participation of own Josfera Mwebi, in an intensive four-day refresher training under the We Can Work Program. The training was both insightful and empowering, equipping participants with essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills required of Disability Inclusion Facilitators (DIFs). Through engaging sessions and guidance from experienced facilitators, participants explored key approaches to promoting disability inclusion, supporting inclusive workplaces, and advocating for equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. This experience further strengthens ELAFA’s commitment to building inclusive communities and advancing opportunities for persons with disabilities through informed leadership and action.

Inclusive climate action means ensuring that everyone, including persons with disabilities, takes part in protecting our planet. On Saturday, we proudly took the lead in a beach cleanup alongside other stakeholders, working together to protect our coastline and preserve our marine life. It was a powerful reminder that when inclusion meets climate action, we create stronger, more sustainable solutions for our environment and our communities.

At Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES 12), we stood together during the Indigenous and Local Community engagement, where every voice truly mattered. Through shared dialogue, lived experiences, and collective reflection, we strengthened our message and had the powerful opportunity to present our plea in the plenary. It was a reminder that when we unite, speak boldly, and advocate inclusively, our voices can influence global conversations and shape decisions that impact both people and planet.

Elafa is proud and deeply honored to have participated in the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-12) as part of the NGO stakeholders’ delegation. We are truly happy that our delegation had the opportunity to attend and actively engage in this important global convening that brings together governments, Indigenous peoples, civil society, NGOs, and the private sector to advance the Business and Biodiversity Assessment and strengthen science-based, inclusive policies. Being present under the NGO stakeholder space reaffirmed our commitment to amplifying diverse voices especially those of Indigenous and local knowledge holders—and to contributing to collective, nature-positive action for sustainable development and responsible biodiversity stewardship.

It was an honour for our Director to meet Dr. Luthando Dziba at IPBES-12 in Manchester and to congratulate him on his appointment as the IPBES Executive Secretary, a significant responsibility in guiding IPBES to strengthen the science–policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services, for nature and for people. Witnessing African leadership continue to shape global environmental governance is both encouraging and inspiring, especially for young people, as it powerfully demonstrates that there are no limits to what one can achieve with vision, commitment, and purpose. Wishing Dr. Dziba every success in this important role and offering my warmest congratulations as he takes on this new chapter of leadership

Biodiversity and disability intersect through inclusive climate action, and at Elite Ability Foundation Africa (ELAFA) we recognize that persons with disabilities are both disproportionately affected by environmental degradation and essential contributors to environmental solutions. Through mangrove planting, ELAFA promotes biodiversity conservation by restoring coastal ecosystems, advances disability inclusion by actively engaging persons with disabilities in nursery management, planting, monitoring, and conservation leadership, supports economic empowerment through accessible green livelihoods, and strengthens climate resilience for vulnerable coastal communities. Equally important is ensuring that persons with disabilities are meaningfully included in environmental policy development and decision-making through accessible participation, disability-responsive policies, and recognition of lived experience and local knowledge, so that biodiversity and climate actions are equitable, effective, and truly leave no one behind.

Talking to the youths is speaking to the future!! Our director had the honor of being a guest speaker at the Rotaract Club of Youthzone, where we held an engaging and impactful conversation on Inclusion at the Workplace. I spoke deeply on disability inclusion, unpacking the existing opportunities, persistent challenges, critical gaps, and most importantly, the way forward toward creating workplaces that are truly inclusive, equitable, and dignifying for all. The session was highly interactive, filled with thoughtful questions, shared experiences, and a collective commitment to move from conversations to action. I’m grateful to the Rotaract Club of Youthzone for creating this space and for their openness to champion inclusion as a shared responsibility, not a favor.
