Last week we had our opening of the final project of Gorton Visual Arts. The “Gorton Tank” Project has been so good to work on. We worked closely with on this project as well as an outreached session at Gorton Mill House. We had a great turn out for the opening, lots of new and old faces came to celebrate the project as well as the Gorton Visual Arts group as we closed the group. We have had a fantastic run over the 18 years winning awards and recognition but more importantly we have worked with so many brilliant and different people along the way. We would like to thank everyone that supported us by following us on social media, attending our exhibitions and openings, this support for this group has been so good and we all appreciate it so much. We would also like to thank our many and varied funders over the years who have funded the wide variety of art projects. Another thank you to all the groups and schools we have worked in partnership with and also those that have allowed us to share our project through outreach workshops. To all the venues that have allowed us to hang and display our work so that the public can view the quality of the work produced. A big thank you to all our volunteers over the years whose time, experience and patience have helped us keep the group open and running. A massive thank you to all our members from our 18 years of existence, to those who are currently in the group, the ones from the very start of the group, the ones from the times in between and to those that sadly are no longer with us, the biggest thank you for all your hard work, understanding, experience, stories, positive attitudes and skill. The project would be nothing without you. And finally a thank you to Ian who started the group and kept the ball rolling for 18 years through the hard times and the easy times. I think it’s safe to say that everyone who has been involved with or has a connection to Gorton Visual Arts would wish you a happy retirement. It’s been a long and emotional ride, Thank you everyone and goodnight.

“Gorton Tank” Project. This Monday was the final session for Gorton Visual Arts. It’s been a fantastic 18 years and we have created so much art work with so much quality. Sad to see it all come to an end but I know for sure that our members have the skills and confidence to carry on being creative. It was a very casual session and we had a little bit of a party too. We finished off most of the paintings and the mosaic is completely finished. We would like to take this final opportunity to thank all our members over the 18 years, all the outreached groups we have worked with, all the funders that have funded our projects and all the support we have gotten from our followers on social media and a big thank you to Ian McKay for all the time, commitment, knowledge, hard work and ideas. Good luck in retirement and I know everyone from Gorton Visual Arts wishes you all the best. Thank you all. It’s been fantastic.

“Gorton Tank” Project. Last week we finished off all the cleaning and grouting on the mosaic, so we started some paintings. Using simple industrial shapes to create a composition and then paint using a more industrial colour palette. Everyone did really well and it was a well deserved rest bite from the hard work put in to the mosaic. It’s been a massive effort from everyone involved. Brilliant effort and work.

“Gorton Tank” Project. Last week we cracked on again and got to cleaning and grouting a couple of the finished boards. This is when the mosaic really starts to come together. Almost completely mosaicked now and not much apart from a few little pieces and simple background colours to put it. Loads of hard work has gone on to it and we are seeing the pay off. Also a big help from again this week. Fantastic effort from everyone it looks great.

“Gorton Tank” Project. This Tuesday we outreached our project to the residents of Gorton Mill House. Sharing the work on the Gorton Tank mosaic. We worked on the lettering which will run along the bottom of the mosaic. Some of the residents have never done a mosaic before and they did a fantastic job on these. Great to reach out to other members of the community and share the project with them. Brilliant job and thank you for those who attended our workshop.

“Gorton Tank” Project. Another week of hard grift and joined again by . It’s almost finished with the mosaic part of the project and we will be moving on to cleaning and grouting next week. A process that is laborious and not as glamorous as the mosaic but it really brings it all together and it does change the whole piece. Lots of hard work yet again. Well done everyone.
