Come one, come all this to the improv event of the century (surely)?!!? this Thursday, March 5th at Niels Bohr Room (6th Floor, Schuster Building) at 7:30 PM (doors open) for an 8:00 PM start!!! 🤓🎤

This is our reminder to all of you to please vote! Read over the candidates and their policies and vote next week 🗳

Here are our endorsements for this year, the candidates who we feel best represent what we want from this uni. They've committed to making education more accessible for all, to cutting ties with genocidal institutions, and to increasing financial support and flexibility for students, amongst many other things!! Make Astrosoc history and join us for our SECOND OVERNIGHT TRIP EVER!! 🚌🌿🌟

It’s Hag D**e Hostel: The Return! for this trip, we have even MORE spots than last time due to popular demand ( 🧘) as we head back to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, staying at Hag D**e Hostel for stargazing, board games, karaoke, and more shenanigags sure to cause a ruckus 🌌💫 (take a peek at some of our photos from our first trip in this post & check out our post from the first trip)!! Bonus: It’ll be the night of a new moon! 🌙

We depart on Saturday, February 14th at 10AM, returning next day on Sunday February 15th at 5PM. Tickets are £40 which includes transportation, accommodation (bed and mattress provided, but bedding is not - please bring your own pillows and sleeping bags), dinner and breakfast (our lovely chefs made some wonderful 🥞 last time 😋)! There is a 1.5 hour hike between the hostel and the drop off location, so please dress accordingly for the cold weather and hiking. Tickets will be up on the Student Union’s site soon - in the mean time, support us by getting a free membership! Please DM if you have any questions!! 📫

ASTROSOC’S FIRST EVER OVERNIGHT TRIP!! 💫🌟🌌

On November 1st-2nd, we ventured to the Yorkshire Dales’ Hag D**e with a full house of 37 lovely Astrosocians in tow! There were pancakes plentiful, games galore, and sights to write sonnets about! 🪐

Over the trip, we had a lovely hike to the hostel with some stellar (ba-dum-tsh) views, making sure to take plenty-a-pic along the way. Once we got to the hostel, we put on our coziest pajamas to play some classic Astrosoc board games with some totally tubular tunes, snacks, and a roaring fire (can’t forget marshmallows!!) in the back, not forgetting to fulfill the most important mission: break into impromptu karaoke! What more could you ask for in life eh? It also wouldn’t be Astrosoc without stargazing! We didn’t just tow our Astrosocians… we also brought telescopes! Make sure to swipe to check out some of our captured pics!! 🌌🔭

Cue audience HUGEEE round of applause for the committee for making this supersonic [rocket ship] trip happen!!! We couldn’t of done it without all of their planning and sharp, comedic, genius, awesomesauce, etcetera wit! 🙂‍↕️👏 We were extremely happy with the interest and turnout of the trip and hope to host more to come, so of course… keep your eyes open and your ears tuned for any other ventures in the future! 👀🥸

Join speaker Dr. Avishek Basu on his talk on Friday, November 20th at 2-3PM! 💫🌟

Neutron stars are among the most mysterious objects in the universe. Spinning with remarkable regularity, they act like cosmic clocks — so precise they can rival the best atomic clocks on Earth. Their extraordinary stability allows us to explore physics across an enormous range of scales, from the tiniest sub-atomic interactions to the vast structure of our Galaxy. In this talk, I’ll share how we use neutron stars to investigate the fundamental physics governing matter at the smallest scales, and why these stellar remnants continue to surprise and inspire us.
