๐ Meet Scott, 21, from Munlochy, just outside Inverness. Having been on Universal Credit and unable to find a job, Scott was referred to Street League by his Work Coach at the DWP. After the first meeting with Scott it was clear, with the right support, he would be able to move into employment.
Scott was the first young person to walk through the doors of the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall. He initially engaged in Street Sport sessions, getting to know the staff and understand how we could support him. After a couple of weeks, he signed up to a Street League Academy, the first to run in the Highland region.
During his time on the programme, Scott played a key role in building trust within the group, helping other participants feel welcome and settled. He also worked closely with staff to update and improve his CV. This was an important step for Scott, after previously applying for jobs without success.
Once his CV was updated, Scott applied for a role with Young's Auld Sweet Shop, where he also introduced himself to the owner in person. He was then invited for an interview. To help prepare, Scott took part in mock interviews, giving him the confidence he needed going into a real interview. With the support of the programme, funded by All in Highlands, Scott successfully secured employment after nearly two years out of paid work, working 30 hours per week at the sweet shop!
๐ Scott has been a fantastic example of what young people can achieve given the right support and we can't wait to see more success stories like his as we develop Street League's work in the Highlands.
