Our Change Ambassador Zephaniah asked , the following at the GMYCA meeting tonight:

'When a young person who struggles with their mental health visits any healthcare facility, is there a plan in place to make sure they’re are not looked down on or discriminated against? That they are being seen first as a person instead of a “title”?' 🥺

This sparked ALOT of debate! 💯

Ultimately, there is still a lot of work to be done, and is working hard on transformational programmes to work better in communities with young people who have lived experience. Young Peoples power to speak up for themselves and each other is also part of the solution! ✨️

So proud of our CA's and the power of youth voice! 👌🏾

Today we discussed toxic masculinity, and we emphasised the rising numbers of young people who have had misogynistic thoughts.

We talked about contemporary themes such as podcasts, male focused "masculinity" training camps and large male role models.

Even after the TedTalkxLondon for women that discussed on how "Boys will be boys", little to no social or moral change has happened around the language revolving around men's mental health. Even after 7 years men's needs haven't been taken seriously impacting both men and women as society seems to forget that the patriarchy affects everybody not just women... what do you think about this?

As March begins, our Change Ambassadors are stepping out of their comfort zones and trying something new! Whether it’s solo traveling, boxing, Strava art, getting a new tattoo, or DIY home projects, we’re all pushing ourselves in different ways.

Trying something new, big or small, can be a great way to build confidence, find joy, and look after your wellbeing. It doesn’t have to be extreme; it could be as simple as taking a new route on your walk, trying a different hobby, or even just switching up your daily routine.

Whatever it is, be kind to yourself in the process. Growth happens when we challenge ourselves, but it’s also okay to take things at your own pace.

🌱 What’s something new you’re trying this month? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️

You've made it through the 10 darkest weeks of the year. The days will only get longer and brighter from now on!
Be proud of yourself for getting through the winter, know it's not easy, and that's okay!

No plant blooms all year round, and humans are no different. It's normal to have up and down periods within a year. Give yourself some credit & let us know what you're looking forward to this summer?

New year, same AMAZING you... just because it's a new year, it doesn't mean there needs to be a new you!

We recognised in the change ambassadors meeting today the immense societal pressure that comes with the new year.
We want to highlight how important it is at this time to realise how amazing you are and as much as personal development and growth are both important and positive, this does not mean you have to change yourself because of feeling that you are inadequate or socially unacceptable.

We don't exist to be 'trending' we exist to be ourselves & that is BEAUTIFUL! 💫

Happy holidays everyone, we want to say a huge thankyou for supporting us throughout 2024. We hope this year has gifted you the growth that it's given us as young people. Whether you've thrived or simply survived we are proud of you either way.

It's okay if this festive period doesn't feel so jolly, there is often a lot of pressure to be happy and merry during this season but, we know christmas can be difficult and that's okay.

There is no pressure to live up to other people's expectations,  be yourself and that is enough.

See you in 2025, virtual hug from us...

Tonight we talked about self care and how it is a vital part in looking after ourselves... it is so important to rest and take time for ourselves. However, we can often feel guilty about this and prioritise 'productivity'. You cannot pour from an empty cup, so we are here to tell you that self care is essential in helping to prevent burnout and exhaustion.

You are your priority... so self care is your priority too!

In this weeks change ambassador meeting we discussed our drive and aim to amplify our voices, the work we do and the voices of all young people even further and had a chat about how we can use our social media to do this.

So, we have one question... what would you like to see from us?

Yesterday we delivered a series of 3 workshops for the 5th Youth Summit for We Belong, on the topic of Mental Health, Wellbeing and Resilience in Youth Leader and Activism.

We had great feedback from the attendees, and everyone enjoyed the topics we spoke about and how informal and interactive they were.

The panel feedback that the Change Ambassador’s made talking about Mental Health and Wellbeing approachable and fun!

The seasons changing are like our emotions. One day we are happy and sunny, one day we feel chilly and cold, others we need to rest and relax and some we have a spring our step.

SAD is a real thing and you shouldn't shame yourself for feeling what emotion you are feeling.

Definition of SAD - 'Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern. SAD is sometimes known as "winter depression" because the symptoms are usually more apparent and more severe during the winter.' (NHS)

"No Winter lasts forever; no Spring skips its return.”– Hal Borland

The weather is not physically great today, and it can be of putting.

But remember, even when it Rains, the Sun will always be shining.

At our CA session today, we discussed public speaking and our passion for speaking for mental health parity for young people.

We considered how our mindset can impact the way we speak our truth and use our voice. Everyone is human, and we should speak to all as such to dismantle power imbalances across sectors and spaces.

Despite the panic we may feel, our voices carry weight and are significant and will always triumph!
