Thanks to Feyzan Sekercioglu Aykanat for gifting a copy of her new book “Mo, Daniel and Crazy Socks” to us for our lending library 🤩🙏 Feyzan says: “At its heart, this is a story about inclusion, friendship, and the strength found in our differences. It is aimed at young readers aged 8–13 and seeks to gently encourage empathy, understanding, and acceptance.

The story follows Mo, a young boy with a Somali father and English mother, who moves in with his eccentric grandmother during the pandemic. There, he meets Daniel, a boy with Down syndrome whose mother is French and father English. Together, in a vibrant, multicultural neighborhood, they build a meaningful friendship while navigating both emotional and everyday challenges.
“One of my main intentions in writing this book was to offer positive, respectful representation of a character with Down syndrome, while placing that character at the centre of a warm and engaging story. Daniel is not defined by his diagnosis, but by his personality, his friendships, and his role within the story.
I strongly believe that stories like this can play an important role in helping children understand inclusion in a natural and meaningful way—both in classrooms and beyond. The book supports conversations around kindness, belonging, and celebrating every individual’s unique strengths”.
Get in touch if you’d like to borrow the book from our lending library 📚 💙💛

We need to talk about Gary 💛 💙

On Sunday, 43 of our team ran the Great Manchester Run - including 10 incredible young adults with Down's syndrome - and together we raised over £30,000 for Down's Syndrome Manchester.

The day was unforgettable. And right at the heart of it? Nando's Manchester Piccadilly.

Gary Dickson and his team welcomed us in before and after the race, fed and watered the whole crew, and quietly went out of their way to make our team feel properly celebrated. No fuss, no fanfare - just kindness.

Gary, thank you. You and your team made an exceptional day even more so. Roll on 23rd May 2027!
