Earlier today, as part of International Day of Older People, we shared some of the ways our customers are creating strong communities on their doorstep. But what about communities that are still taking shape? Kindred House shows how that can start long before people move in. 🏗️

Members of the Community Steering Group have been helping to shape the future of the UK's first purpose-built majority LGBTQ+ Extra Care housing scheme for people aged 55 and over. They've shared ideas about communal spaces, explored the local area and nearby services, and helped define the values that will bring the community together.

By involving these members from the start, we're helping make Kindred House feel like home before it's even complete. 🏡

As we mark International Day of Older People and this year's What's on Your Doorstep? theme, it's a great example of how listening to customers can help create places where people feel welcome, included and part of a community from day one. 💚

For Gas Safety Week, we're shining spotlights on how we can take no chances when it comes to keeping our homes safe and staying vigilant - but should your gas alarm sound, or you think you smell gas, here’s what to do:

📞 Call the free National Gas Emergency Number, 0800 111 999 immediately.
📴 Turn the gas off at the meter;
🪟 Open the windows and doors to ventilate the home;
❌ Don’t operate any switches or equipment;
🔥 Don’t smoke or strike any matches, and put out all naked flames;
📱 Go outside and await the gas engineer and also ring us so we can sort out the issue ASAP.

We take our responsibility as a landlord seriously to provide annual checks on gas appliances in our homes – but there’s ways we can all be vigilant too! Whether it’s by:

- Having a working smoke or gas alarm;
- If you use a gas cooker, making sure the flame is a crisp blue;
- Not undertaking any gas-related DIY – always book in a repair with our team;
- Ringing the National Gas Emergency number if your alarm sounds and following their advice.

This week is Gas Safety Week, and this year’s theme is ‘Take no Chances’. We take our responsibility as a landlord seriously to keep our homes safe, and we’re committed to:

• Repairing and maintaining gas pipework, flues and appliances in a safe condition;
• Ensuring annual gas safety checks on each appliance and flue;
• Checking chimneys for blockages;
• Conducting visual inspections of customers’ own appliances;
• Inspecting and testing all accessible gas pipework to prevent gas leaks;
• Keeping a record of each safety check.
