A reminder to all our volunteers 🙌 💫

14/08/2026

⚠️ IMPORTANT: SEVERE WILDFIRE ALERT ⚠️

Following the UK Government Severe Alert regarding the very high risk of wildfires, we are asking all Greater Manchester West Scout Groups to take immediate action and follow the official advice.

🔥 Until further notice, we will be banning activities that could start a fire across all our Scout activities, camps and events.

Please avoid any activity that could start a fire, including:
🍳 Disposable BBQs
🔥 Fire pits and campfires
🎆 Fireworks
🪵 Any other activity involving open flames or a risk of ignition

With the current dry conditions, even a small flame has the potential to develop rapidly into a serious wildfire, putting people, property, wildlife and our emergency services at risk.

Please ensure this message is shared with all leaders, volunteers and young people where appropriate, and that planned activities are reviewed and changed if necessary.

🚨 If you see signs of a fire, move to a safe location and call 999 immediately.

For the latest official Government alerts and advice, please visit:

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe. Please continue to monitor official guidance as the situation develops.

119 years since the very first experimental Scout camp pitched up on Brownsea Island, Dorset.

We’re so proud of everything our volunteers have done since then to give young people a place to belong. Thank you to you all! 🙌
