MAD Walkers

MAD Walkers Manchester and District Walkers
Aimed at 20's and 30's
Walks every weekend, all welcome 🥾 Manchester And District 20s and 30s Rambling Group.

We offer a varied programme of weekly walks and hikes taking advantage of the excellent walking country surrounding Greater Manchester. We also have a wide variety of socials as well as walking weekends away. You don't have to join up or book a place to go on one of our walks - just turn up at the designated meeting place! We are a local group of the Ramblers - a charity whose goal is to protect t

he ability of people to enjoy the sense of freedom and benefits that come from being outdoors on foot. Our walking calendar and FAQs are on the website at www.madwalkers.org.uk

The Saturday before last, MAD Walkers went on a epic adventure. This was The Grand Tour of the North, a grand day out which covered 272 rail miles between 3 cities, 1 town and a very big bridge. We also walked 14.9 km (we are a walking group after all!)

The highlights of the day:
Chilling in big (and little) chairs in Sheffield.

Having a pint in an ancient pub and a bar with a canal running through in Nottingham

Visiting the stunningly beautiful Lincoln cathedral

Walking across the Humber Bridge

Exploring Hull Old Town

Having fish and chips outside Selby Abbey

There was even a quiz! Scott Henderson winning the coveted Northern Rail mug!

Big thank to Owain Roberts for organising and leading a cracking day out.

Socials are a big part of what makes MAD Walkers such a vibrant group. They're a great way of meeting new people, making new friends, exploring different places or trying something new. From board games nights to roller skating, from food festivals to music festivals, there is something for every one.

Fancy putting on your own social? We're always looking for people to put on socials. Check out the website for more details on our current socials and how you can put your own social on.

Anyone who has had a chance to read the latest copy of Walk magazine which landed on people's doorsteps on Monday might have noticed Nick, a member of MAD Walkers and his story.

Nick has a severe form of ME, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome. As you'll read in the post below and in the latest edition of Walk, this condition hugely affected Nick's life.

However, after his dad recommended joining a hiking group, Nick slowly started to find his feet again (excuse the pun!) which culminated in climbing Ben Nevis on our Glencoe weekend last year.

ME still affects Nick but his story shows the power of group hiking and how anyone can overcome challenges with the help of other people. Think we can all agree that this is quite a inspirational story.

Nick has kindly allowed us to share his Substack blog which he talks about ME, how it affects his daily life and how misunderstood and stigmatised the condition is. https://thepersonalme.substack.com/
