LGBT Foundation is a vibrant charity based in Manchester providing a wide range of services to over 40,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people each year. Our support services include sexual health, wellbeing, counselling, a national helpline, outreach work, a condom and lube distribution scheme, anti-homophobia projects, a range of guides and resources as well as policy and campaigning. We pro

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Manchester’s LGBTQIA+ Heritage Trail — an inspiring new project created by volunteers from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) North West in partnership with LGBT Foundation, Manchester Village Pride, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Manchester City Council.

This landmark trail shines a light on hidden stories from Manchester’s historic Gay Village. Across a series of new place markers, it celebrates how LGBTQIA+ communities reclaimed canal infrastructure and Victorian industrial spaces as places of survival, solidarity, protest, and pride.

When Niamh (they/them) first moved to Manchester, they were navigating hidden disabilities, identity and the uncertainty of finding where they belonged.

Through LGBTQ+ community, LGBT Foundation support and eventually drag, Niamh found connection, confidence and joy — stepping onto the stage as drag king Tidgy Stryder. 💥

Their story reminds us that hope is more than getting through difficult times. It is the belief that we can build the lives, spaces and communities we deserve.

It was brilliant to have Bev Craig join us at our recent LGBTQ+ Hustings event. We congratulate her on becoming the elected Mayor of Greater Manchester, and look forward to working with her on pushing forward her commitments around championing LGBTQ+ inclusion and tackling divisiveness.

We’re so proud of our lived-experience led in health and wellbeing services in Greater Manchester which truly set the standard for better LGBTQ+ healthcare and safety. We hope to see LGBTQ+ communities thrive across Greater Manchester and offer our support in ensuring the region’s ‘Live Well’ programme is LGBTQ+ inclusive.

We’ve invited Bev to meet LGBT Foundation’s Village Angels, an essential part of Manchester’s night time community safety offer.

We want to help her ensure greater democratic engagement too. LGBTQ+ people are less likely to be registered to vote but together we can change that, and encourate people to have their voice heard.

In Greater Manchester, let’s continue to set the standard.
